We’re at the midway point of the season, with the Yanks playing their best baseball of the year. They’ve taken 17 of their last 21 games since the nadir of the season in that June 7-9 homestand facing the Red Sox. If you haven’t done so already make sure you check out MJR’s June recap, loads of good nuggets in there on just how they arrived at their current 2.5 game lead (3 in the loss) in the standings.

For today, we have the big man Bartolo Colon going for the Yanks in his much anticipated return. I think I can speak for most Yankee fans in saying I’ve missed him. He’s pitched great this year, and he’s really a joy to watch. Works quickly, throws strikes, attacks hitters and lets absolutely nothing bother him out there. Facing him Dillon Gee, who has been a pleasant surprise for the Mets this year but faces his biggest test. He struggled a bit in his last start facing the Rangers (6 IP 8H 2BB) and looking at his game log I think it’s safe to say the Yanks will be the best lineup he’s faced so far this year.  Game is on FOX, so we all get to enjoy Joe Buck and Tim McCarver’s expert analysis. If they’re not your cup of tea, you could always turn up the radio and enjoy John and Suzyn.

Colon is not being removed from the rotation after what he’s done today after being out several weeks, fuck Phil Hughes.

Even if Colon gives up two runs in the next two innings, that’s 6 IP 2 ER against the Mets’ ace.

Just stopped by to see if “professional laughing stock” Nunez going 7 for 8 with the one out a shot caught on a terrific play by the 2B or him hitting 339/369/525 since taking over for Jeter would get any mention here.
