After ruining Fenway Park’s 100th birthday celebration with a bevy of home runs off Clay Buchholz, the Yankees are back in business in Boston today as Freddy Garcia looks to get back on track, taking on young lefty Felix Doubront and the Red Sox.  Lineups are below.  Enjoy, and chat it up in the comment section if you desire.

In other news, Michael Pineda apparently had a setback in his recovery, as he has been feeling weakness in his throwing shoulder.  He is going to undergo further testing before he starts throwing again.  Panic is probably premature until more information is known, but this is certainly a troubling development.

Of all the words of tongue or pen
The saddest are these: The Yankees are losing to the Red Sox on Fox.

    • smurfy says:

hey, you’re not trying to split our infinitive, arest thou? I saw Mike and somebody at RAB had today, of the series, Boston’s turn to stomp.

I left RAB when I saw the dump Freddie movement gaining steam. They are hitting his splits and probaqbly curves real well. (Make that were, since he was just pulled.)

Breaking balls, control and bite, can take just as long as fastballs to develop. Rythm is probably more important. Takes time.

      • Professor Longnose says:

It wouldn’t surprise me if he came back and had a serviceable year, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t. At this point, I might throw in the towel on Hughes and move him permanently to the pen before punting Garcia, but I think the rotation is going to end up as Sabathia, Nova, Kuroda, Pineda, Pettitte.

        • smurfy says:

I don’t think you have to throw the towel in on anybody. If Phil, Freddie or Phelpsie could help us more, even temporarily, in another capacity, bullpenning presumably, then fine.

But it definitely is too early to close any books.

          • Professor Longnose says:

Sorry, I meant throw in the towel on Hughes as a starter. I think he can be a decent reliever.

      • Professor Longnose says:

We split hairs. We might as well split infinitives.

  2. Phil C says:

Garcia wasn’t able to fool anyone. They were timing his pitches and he can’t seem to get his fork ball working with 2 strikes. I’m looking forward to seeing Phelps after Ripada. Maybe Pettitte and Phelps can join the rotation, with Hughes to the pen.

    • smurfy says:

What happens to Freddie? Today’s fool may be tomorrow’s smart pitcher, if you stick with him.

Phelps can be pretty valuable cleaning up after, and not facing the full brunt of will yet.

  3. smurfy says:

Now is David’s time to say, like the babe in Gone With the Wind, I shall never … be scored on again.

  4. smurfy says:

What?!? Ortiz can score? Why can’t Curtis throw him out?

  5. smurfy says:

Looked like we had a shift on for Aviles? Our shifting has NOT helped.

  6. smurfy says:

Wow, this ump’s strike zone is sure inside on Curtis. Sliders that curve around the plate (presumably, since I’m not there).

I bet he was telling the BoSox when to swing, too.

  7. smurfy says:

Phelps just walked Poppy on four pitches. What happened?

Oh, simi-intentional. Speared the rookie Spears with a curve.

  8. smurfy says:

Free pass day for the BoSox.

Step right up! Take your best swing. Hit the dinger ‘n’ win a prize!

    Step right up!

  9. BGrider85 says:

Its definitely time to take Garcia out of the rotation and let Phelps have a crack or two. Once Pettitte and/or Pineda are ready, Hughes comes out too. What good is the “too much pitching” problem if you fail to utilize the benefits of said problem?

  10. BGrider85 says:

Yeah just saw that. It didn’t sound serious but who knows? Wonder if Cash would still make that trade if he could do it over again. Jesus isn’t exactly tearing it up in Seattle. But at least he’s on the field.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Yeah. Hope it’s not serious. Of course, if it is serious, the trade’s a disaster. But if not, still a calculated risk.

  11. Professor Longnose says:

    WE MISSED A SWISH-SLAM!!

  12. Professor Longnose says:

    Holy crap!! TEX!!!

  13. smurfy says:

Yeah, I’m pissed they didn’t give us a hint, but maybe the Yankees were shy.

Who-whoo, we got a ballgame back.

  14. smurfy says:

I do not like this ump’s calls either pitching or hitting.

  15. smurfy says:

Way to bang that wall, Swish!

  16. smurfy says:

    ahhhoooh! foul by a foot!

  17. Eric Schultz says:

This is unreal, I can’t believe what I’m seeing.

  18. smurfy says:

Oh, baby! Yankees! Texy is sexy again!

  19. Professor Longnose says:

    Nick is elated. Cool.

  20. smurfy says:

It’s a loverly evening in old Boston.

  21. Professor Longnose says:

    This is a GAME.

  22. smurfy says:

Bobby is gonna wear the boo machine out.

  23. smurfy says:

Hey, there’s Josh on the bench, watching the game. Did the videogame machine break or something?

  24. Professor Longnose says:

Tomorrow on the ESPN game, Francona is going to say all the right things, and it will make Red Sox fans feel even worse.

    • smurfy says:

I think the rain will forestall that. After the game, I’m gonna do stock up on ice cream and cake for the Nor’eater that’s coming.

  25. smurfy says:

Can’t plug them up with the shift!

  26. smurfy says:

More turnabout with the low liner to first for a dp.

  27. smurfy says:

    Sweet visit to Boston!
