Via RAB per Ben Shpigel, ‘s second MRI revealed what the team is referring to as a “damaged shoulder.” Without knowing more we can only surmise what may happen, though it probably means another lefty reliever on the shelf for the better part of the season. Along with that’s $8 million for two guys who may not throw a pitch for the team all year.

Meanwhile , who I banged the drum for pretty loudly this past offseason, is off to a fine start in Kansas City. While Francis probably isn’t 2.61 ERA/3.49 FIP/3.05 xFIP good, I’d rather have gambled $2 million on Francis than $4 million on Feliciano. The only positive I can glean from this is that if the Yankees are determined to add another lefty to the ‘pen, perhaps Andy Sisco (3 innings, four strikeouts and one walk over two relief appearances at AAA thus far) will get a shot.

We need to stop giving relief pitchers multi-year deals.

Correction, we need to stop giving left handed relievers with iffy pasts rather large multi-year deals.

I still have no problem with Soriano, and if he ends up giving us 3 good years, or 2 pretty good seasons I can’t complain about overpaying him when we have the resources to do so, and when he was the best available.
