I thought Yankees fans were savvy. I thought flags fly forever. I thought guys who play hurt and push themselves through injuries are applauded for their fortitude. So why are we booing the guy most responsible for our only championship in the last decade, a guy who has won MVP’s for this team and changed positions to come here and win? I guess I thought wrong.

Was at the game and told everyone in my section to cut it out, so foolish.

  2. Eric says:

That’s actually Jeter wearing his Rodriguez-disguise. No way could anyone else be that clutch.

  3. Kelley says:

An obscenely bloated salary calls for obscenely good results.

    • JoshTFL says:

Someone get the pooper scooper ’cause this guy’s talkin’ shit!

    • Moshe Mandel says:

So boo Jeter, right? And there’s a difference between having high standards and booing.

      • Kelley says:

In my mind, DJ is the greatest Yankee ever.

The question is ARod’s value/production as compared to his highest salary ever. Somebody out there has already done this math. What are the numbers?

        • Rich in NJ says:

Jeter is better than Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, or Mantle? That’s just silly.

        • Tuxplorer says:

A-Rod was worth more than what he got paid from 2004-2009. Only in the last couple of years he has struggled to live upto his salary because of his injuries.

Jeter on the other hand has forever been overpaid. When A-Rod signed, he should have taken over at SS. Because he was a FAR better SS than Jeter. That would have gotten even more value out of A-Rod.

  5. Bexy says:

I thought Yankees fans were savvy.
You didn’t really think that, did you? ;P

  6. Avi says:

My thoughts exactly. Drives me NUTS when they boo Arod. It’s alomost like these “fans” will only be happy with him if he hits a 5 run homer every time up.

  7. Bobby Montano says:

I was also at the game yesterday and asked all the people in my section booing if they would rather Chavez had come up, or perhaps Eduardo Nunez. They all said that they “wouldn’t go that far.” The A-Rod hate is really stupid.. what more can one possibly demand of him? He won us a title in ’09.. people forget how poorly Teixeira hit in front of him, not to mention Swisher or Cano. Also, he’s hurt. C’mon, people.

  8. champ11228 says:

Yankees mongos are a vile breed

  9. Arno says:

Yeah that booing last night was weak. WEAK!

I thought Yankees fans were better than that. Really pathetic.

  10. Rich in NJ says:

Booing A-Rod is to fail one of life’s little IQ tests and to expose your neurosis at the same time.

  11. Betsy says:

I have little respect for Yankee fans in general – and as for these clowns, they ought never to cheer for him again. Hypocrites- it really digusts me. It’s obvious that Yankee fans don’t like Alex- at best they tolerate him. Meanwhile, Tex gets the world’s biggest free pass.

  12. Professor Longnose says:

Maybe the Yankees would have won more than one championship in the last decade if Rodriguez hadn’t sucked in so many playoff series other than 2009.

The fans get to boo whoever they want. If you don’t like it, that’s just too damn bad.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

The fans are free to boo whoever they want, and I am free to have the opinion that it makes them seem like entitled a-holes.

      • Professor Longnose says:

        Agreed.

I would also argue that, to me, your attitude seems much more arrogant than theirs.

You want to argue that Rodriguez has been great from 2004 to 2009? Fine. You want to argue that a lot of what has been said about him is irrational? Cool. Argue. I’ll enjoy reading it. But don’t sneer. I don’t come to yankeeanalysts.com for that; I’ve got sports talk radio.

  13. roadrider says:

Well, Mantle and Maris got booed and even Joe DiMaggio caught crap for his holdout. A-Rod is never going to be loved by Yankee fans (or fans any where). He has been a great player and he still has a lot of value but he is kind of a dick and isn’t really shy about leading the celebrity lifestyle.

I really doubt the boos bother A-Rod as much as his thumb and knee. If they do, my suggestion to him is to suck it up – it goes with the territory and the choices he’s made – not that I blame him one bit for getting the best price for his services or wanting to remain a Yankee. If he wanted to be loved he could have stayed in Seattle for his entire career and been like Kirby Puckett or Tony Gwynn.

Booing is a baseball tradition as old as peanuts and Cracker Jack. It isn’t going away and it’s silly to make a big deal out of it.

  14. Matthew says:

Baseball stadiums are full of people who don’t know anything about baseball. The spectators behind me on Sunday had a long conversation along the lines of “I don’t like that number 13″, I have a strong suspicion the had never heard of Alex Rodriguez. Then again there was also a discussion about why the 2nd baseman didn’t actually stand on 2nd base. And yes, they bood ARod when a bunch of other people did.

You can’t argue with people like that.

The solution? Stop caring if a few thousand ‘fans’ at the game boo a player. People boo because they’re frustrated, and in this case, they don’t know any better or they don’t care. I just wish the TV broadcasters wouldn’t make all Yankee fans out as bad people because of it.

AROD is back to , coming up to bat.. sticking his head and neck out toward the mound..he looks like turtle, then he has 10 lbs of seeds in his mouth trying to chew and spit them all over the place without choking..the guy is doing just that choking.he is lost..he will blame injuries after we lose…i would have started chavez at third and made him DH for the first game, if he looked bad doing that ..posada DH, chavez third arod take a seat.. jeter is a singles hitter, arod is a guy that needs to carry teams as all great sluggers do.. he lost his power and bat speed ..he knows it..he should sit out tonight.. can not put this on jeter or anyone else..for the money and clean up position ,he is a complete failure and we have him for years and years..get used to this 30mil for a 270 hitter with under 20 homers a year..and sick bay when he goes into major slumps..he is going to make jorge’s 2011 season look great..we will see this till his contract is done..i was a hugh AROD fan..he was hollow..filled with juice..sad …for the fans ..sad for the owners that paid him a quarter of a billion dollars..

  16. bornwithpinstripes says:

the cheer and the boo and or hiss is every fans right..that what all sports and their fan base are about.. if arod does his job, 190,000 a game’s worth he would not be booed..no saying he needs to hit a HR every game the fans are not fools even the ones who follow other fans flows..he gets the big money with that comes great expectations..he was the best got paid as the best..when you don’t perform you get booed louder then the rest it comes with the salary..every yankee fan want arod to be the best..cano can not carry this team alone..swisher swings like he wants to hit the ball to canada..hope arod shuts me up tonight,,i rather him be great and me be wrong..the team carries him..he will carry that burden.

    • Damian says:

That “every fan has a right to boo” is an empty statement. The question is: why do they boo? “Because he makes a lot of money and has had some bad games” is an empty answer. So he hasn’t played well. That doesn’t mean people have to or should boo. People booing, hissing or sneering at someone from a great distance away from that person is cowardly and undignified. And whatever Swisher’s swinging for Canada has to do with it, I don’t know.

  17. Alex Taffet says:

Thanks for that Moshe. That helped a lot.
