  1. Professor Longnose says:

The game yesterday was incredibly dramatic. Would it have been as dramatic if it had been played in two and a half hours?

    • smurfy says:

I vote noway. That’s the way they are: did you hear, late in the game, that both sides had expended 970 pitches or so? Sounds like a lot.

Two crappy starters, that is, two struggling hurlers might average 25 pitches to a crappy lineup, er, a small market team per inning. Let’s say they complete the game, not because of skill, but for lack of someone better available, that’s 425 pitches. Hmm, 970 is a lot.

      (Hope I heard right.)

      • Professor Longnose says:

There’s definitely going to be more pitches in a game with a lot of hitters who can work counts, like the Sox and Yanks. No one who complains takes that into account. I wonder if anyone tracks seconds/pitch for a game overall.

      • smurfy says:

If anybody reads this, no, I didn’t hear right. 381 pitches, says the NYT. Good analysis of the length of the game, what takes time, over there. Prof, they say just over 4 seconds per pitch, about 15% more than a normal game.

  2. Professor Longnose says:

    Uh-oh…Bautista with two on.

  3. Professor Longnose says:

    Gardner is the man!!

  4. smurfy says:

How nice is it to have a good fielder out there?

  5. smurfy says:

While I was writing my clever response, above? I missed Yuniel Escobar: how did he get on?

  6. smurfy says:

Ow! Anybody else, and that ball would have been out of play. That Bautista is so lucky. No fair!

  7. smurfy says:

Ooh, Swish ought to learn that’s Robbie’s. Good thing Ivan could cover.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

I just hate it when the announcers ignore the game to promote something.

    • smurfy says:

yeah, I muted it. Even irks m when they take ten miutes on the pre-game. Guess you have to promote a good cause, but I always ask myself, what’s this got to do with baseball?

  9. smurfy says:

Not to mention (standard rates apply) these usually stupid text polls.

  10. smurfy says:

wow. did you see Robbie pull the trigger on that down-in slider? Started off down-in, why’d he swing?

    Damn that curve or slider!

  11. Professor Longnose says:

    Swisher’s bunt! Don’t remind me!

  12. smurfy says:

    Tex usually makes those tagouts.

  13. smurfy says:

He’s complaining about your seats. You’re gonna have to wear black.

  14. smurfy says:

Nice one, Nunie and Jete. By an eyelash!!

  15. Professor Longnose says:

I feel so low energy today compared with yesterday.

  16. smurfy says:

I spotted Bobby from the Sopranos. See him behind the righty batter.

  17. smurfy says:

that was neat, so delicate, the tag. Got him just as he was braking into the bag.

  18. Professor Longnose says:

    I never saw The Sopranos.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

Nunez is impressing me less and less the more I see him. What’s your take?

  20. smurfy says:

Yes! Gardy! Actually heard the tone of that bat!

  21. smurfy says:

great, they appealed to whom? He was safe, thanks, YES-MO.

  22. Professor Longnose says:

    Let’s hear a little Camelot.

  23. smurfy says:

Morrow throws the same slider in on lefties as Nova, but it’s sharper by a factor of 3.

  24. Professor Longnose says:

    Jo-wo-wo-wo-wones!

  25. smurfy says:

Patch, my kitty, wants atention. She squeezed between the bars on my recliner footrest, and poked her head up by my keyboard on my lap.

  26. smurfy says:

Did you see Escobar’ toe pad? A piece of wood, secured by gauze and surgical tape, just sitting on his foot.

  27. smurfy says:

Gardy has a ball magnet in his glove.

  28. smurfy says:

Ivan had to try three times to clip the corner. The ump was right on.

    From my angle, anyways.

  29. Professor Longnose says:

I wonder what happened to T.O.

  30. smurfy says:

Morrow’s up to 90. Want to see his backside. Pitches in very effectively.

    Grandy sure smokes ‘em!

  31. smurfy says:

Some fine parting music for Morrow!

    Go, Yankees! Git some!

Shoot! He beat Swish several times. (three)

  32. smurfy says:

What a wonderful world, a-wonnerful, oops -Thames.

  33. smurfy says:

Ivan is coming apart. Thank Brian for a great outfield! Six nice will do, Nova boy!

  34. smurfy says:

Patch is acting like a sneaksy scattercat. When I walk in,she dashes madly, up the chair over the shelf, up the TV, down the monitor, off into dining room furniture.

  35. smurfy says:

    meat’s on the table, Swisheroo.

Drat! He missed a chance at Longnose redemption. So sad.

    The bunt grudge goes on.

  36. Professor Longnose says:

    OK, Swisher, win me back.

  37. smurfy says:

oh, had to see the replay to see theout at second, by the eyelash. Shame we can’t all pick them like Tex.

Wowwoooo! Thought that was Cano, who had saved our bacon. But, NUNIE!

  38. smurfy says:

Russell needs a piece of meat for his bat. Shaa -

    Down to Mo.

  39. Professor Longnose says:

    Caught the great Bautista looking.

  40. smurfy says:

Mo disobeyed Martin’s target outside. Good on him!

  41. Professor Longnose says:

    First place here we come!

  42. smurfy says:

Good. Mo was as worried about that fly to right as I was!

    Nite, Prof!

  43. Professor Longnose says:

Red Sox game is over. First place!

  44. Professor Longnose says:

    Night, smurfy and Patch.

  45. smurfy says:

Hooray for Brett Gardner, my player of the game!
