The game yesterday was incredibly dramatic. Would it have been as dramatic if it had been played in two and a half hours?
I vote noway. That’s the way they are: did you hear, late in the game, that both sides had expended 970 pitches or so? Sounds like a lot.
Two crappy starters, that is, two struggling hurlers might average 25 pitches to a crappy lineup, er, a small market team per inning. Let’s say they complete the game, not because of skill, but for lack of someone better available, that’s 425 pitches. Hmm, 970 is a lot.
(Hope I heard right.)
There’s definitely going to be more pitches in a game with a lot of hitters who can work counts, like the Sox and Yanks. No one who complains takes that into account. I wonder if anyone tracks seconds/pitch for a game overall.
If anybody reads this, no, I didn’t hear right. 381 pitches, says the NYT. Good analysis of the length of the game, what takes time, over there. Prof, they say just over 4 seconds per pitch, about 15% more than a normal game.
Uh-oh…Bautista with two on.
Gardner is the man!!
How nice is it to have a good fielder out there?
On a scale of 1 to 10, 400.
Now think of catcher. We were considering WP’s the other time; we should have considered Passed Balls as an indicator of weakness. WP are just the difficulty scale.
While I was writing my clever response, above? I missed Yuniel Escobar: how did he get on?
Walk.
Ow! Anybody else, and that ball would have been out of play. That Bautista is so lucky. No fair!
Ooh, Swish ought to learn that’s Robbie’s. Good thing Ivan could cover.
I just hate it when the announcers ignore the game to promote something.
yeah, I muted it. Even irks m when they take ten miutes on the pre-game. Guess you have to promote a good cause, but I always ask myself, what’s this got to do with baseball?
i don’t mind that so much. Work it in in between the action. There’s plenty of time.
Not to mention (standard rates apply) these usually stupid text polls.
They’re ridiculous. They’re pointless and biased.
where it gets me is, it’s usually something the public doesn’t have any good basis for deciding
Yeah. They just vote for the Yankee, or the most recent thing.
wow. did you see Robbie pull the trigger on that down-in slider? Started off down-in, why’d he swing?
Damn that curve or slider!
Swisher’s bunt! Don’t remind me!
he woulda fanned if he tried to bunt that slider!
Tex usually makes those tagouts.
He’s complaining about your seats. You’re gonna have to wear black.
I don’t know why those seats are so expensive. They seem pretty far away.
yeah, better wander soon.
one thing was cool: Gardy was in center, barking positioning orders to left. Doing the cap’n thing.
Nice one, Nunie and Jete. By an eyelash!!
I feel so low energy today compared with yesterday.
at one point, I was trying to invent a way to make a drumbeat thru the keyboard.
An incredible game yesterday.
I spotted Bobby from the Sopranos. See him behind the righty batter.
that was neat, so delicate, the tag. Got him just as he was braking into the bag.
I never saw The Sopranos.
rent them from the library? excellent stuff!
Liked the way Bautista charged and threw.
I’ll put it on my list.
For some reason, I’ve watched a few episodes of Dark Shadows recently. I hope I don’t get suckered in to watching too many of them.
The socialization is fascinating and quite humorous, the backstabbing son of a…
Nunez is impressing me less and less the more I see him. What’s your take?
He’s not compact, like Jeter, but he’s fast. If he does this another year, I’ll bet we will be amazed.
He’s still got time to develop. I hope he does.
Yes! Gardy! Actually heard the tone of that bat!
Without Gardner, this could be 5-0 Toronto.
wow, you’re right!
great, they appealed to whom? He was safe, thanks, YES-MO.
Let’s hear a little Camelot.
I dunno: it’s not the lusty month of May….a more convenient spot.. for hap-py ever-aftering than he-eere in Yankee-land. Howzzat?
Oops! I meant Finian’s Rainbow. I wanted Sterling to start singing Something Sort Of Grandish.
Well, we didn’t get it. But we got Gardner tying the game. Tie games feel so much better than losing.
Jonesy!
..the score never disappoints, here in Camelot!
Bravo!
Morrow throws the same slider in on lefties as Nova, but it’s sharper by a factor of 3.
True, but no raggin’ on Nova. I hate to think where the Yankees would be without him.
I’m NOT ragging: more sharpness to him!
Jo-wo-wo-wo-wones!
Patch, my kitty, wants atention. She squeezed between the bars on my recliner footrest, and poked her head up by my keyboard on my lap.
Don’t you think you owe her a little attention? It’s the least you can do.
I was getting a drink in the kitchen, and figured it out: it was past time for her crunchy treats.
Did you see Escobar’ toe pad? A piece of wood, secured by gauze and surgical tape, just sitting on his foot.
No, didn’t catch it. I’ll look.
Chris T.O. would roll back the Tivo. They had a closeup.
I’ve got DVR. I could try that.
Do, if you want. It’s kinda like Mo’s old milk carton ball glove.
Gardy has a ball magnet in his glove.
Ivan had to try three times to clip the corner. The ump was right on.
From my angle, anyways.
I wonder what happened to T.O.
maybe he went too far out on the limb for Jimenez. Dunno.
That must be it. He’s embarrassed that Jimenez has done so poorly in the AL.
Boy, we dodged a bullet there, no? He’s physically impaired.
Probably. Did they actually diagnose him with an injury?
No, but he has sucked quite dramatically.
Morrow’s up to 90. Want to see his backside. Pitches in very effectively.
Grandy sure smokes ‘em!
Yankees are dealing with Morrow exactly the right way. Make him throw a lot of pitches, don’t try to overpower the ball.
yeah, sounds right: Swish did try.
Some fine parting music for Morrow!
Go, Yankees! Git some!
Shoot! He beat Swish several times. (three)
Swisher is in a slump again.
no, no, don’t say that. He’s been delightful! Button your lip.
He lost me with that bunt. He’s going to have to win a World Series game with a home run to win me back.
you sure hold a grudge.
Oh,. yeah. I’m still pissed at Bobby Meacham for trying to score on a play where the runner in front of him was thrown out at the plate.
hoho, that sounds memorable!
http://captnsblog.wordpress.com/2010/04/29/flashback-home-plate-double-plays/
thanks, I’ll watch later!
What a wonderful world, a-wonnerful, oops -Thames.
Ivan is coming apart. Thank Brian for a great outfield! Six nice will do, Nova boy!
It’s in the bag! He never blows a lead. Sez the announcers.
Only 89 pitches. You don’t want Nova to come out for the 7th?
no, thanks, anyway, he’s in. Maybe he re-grouped. There’s one, so far, so good.
Nice curve, then two quick. Guess I was too scared. Betcha Joe is very proud of his decision, and Nova benefited, in confidence gained.
He looked good.
He’s getting more Ks lately. He’s getting better every start.
Haven’t been watching closely consistently, but think he hasn’t used his new slider too much tonite.
Patch is acting like a sneaksy scattercat. When I walk in,she dashes madly, up the chair over the shelf, up the TV, down the monitor, off into dining room furniture.
My dog Buddy wants some attention, too. He keep pretending there are imaginary intruders, and starts barking.
Shaddup, Buddy – I know your game. Aww, c’mere boy, you hoocheekoo.
:)
meat’s on the table, Swisheroo.
Drat! He missed a chance at Longnose redemption. So sad.
The bunt grudge goes on.
OK, Swisher, win me back.
oh, had to see the replay to see theout at second, by the eyelash. Shame we can’t all pick them like Tex.
Wowwoooo! Thought that was Cano, who had saved our bacon. But, NUNIE!
Cano’s in for defense.
yeah, he’s more reliable, but that play by Nunie was range-and-timing Wonderful!
Russell needs a piece of meat for his bat. Shaa -
Down to Mo.
Hope he’s his usual self tonight.
Caught the great Bautista looking.
Mo disobeyed Martin’s target outside. Good on him!
First place here we come!
Good. Mo was as worried about that fly to right as I was!
Nite, Prof!
Red Sox game is over. First place!
oooh! Sweet!
Night, smurfy and Patch.
Hooray for Brett Gardner, my player of the game!
