Buck Showalter sure got dumb in a hurry, huh? After having the best record in baseball since taking over the O’s late last July and getting off to a 6-1 start this year, the Charm City crew has fallen on hard times, losing 7 in a row and 8 of their last 10.  But that’s just baseball, Suzyn. One thing you know about a team managed by Buck, they will show up ready to play. That hasn’t always been the case with Baltimore in recent years. Is it just me, or does it seem like the Yanks haven’t played in forever? Between the bad weather, Knicks and Rangers (sorry) in the playoffs, and an insanely busy week for me at work, it feels like the All Star Break came 3 months early this year. But baseball is back, good weather is on the way and the Yanks are still the only team in the AL East with a winning record. Life is good. Here’s today’s lineup:

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Jorge Posada DH
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF

Pitching for the Yanks is CC Sabathia facing the Orioles  Brad Bergesen.

Just to give you guys a quick update on today’s Yankee news. CC felt a bit under the weather yesterday, but says he would have pitched and is “ready to go” tonight. That could mean a quick hook tonight by Girardi. Yankee rotation is set for the next few days, with Garcia going tomorrow, then AJ, Nova and Colon set to face the White Sox. Phil Hughes threw a bullpen, said he felt good and is slated to pitch a rehab start in Scranton this Thursday. Kevin Millwood pitched again in AAA this afternoon and had a nice start, giving up just 2 ER and 7 hits over 7 IP. But scouts say his fastball was sitting in the 85-86 MPH range, topping out at 89. I suppose if Nova gets shelled in his next start the Yanks could give Millwood a look-see, but frankly I don’t see the point.

My man Jorge is on pace to hit 48 homers and 28 singles this year.

He really does need to remember you can hit something other than homers haha.

Martin with another HR! I’m so glad he’s doing well, now all the scouts (and Bobby V) who hated on his signing can shutup! His health issues could re-occur but if he stays healthy he could surpass the 15 and 10 I had him pegged for, best part is with him still being under team control next season we can trade him in the off-season if need be and get something return on the back end.

Man, Martin is on fire. He must’ve been offended by my assertion (in my 5:00 post) that he wouldn’t keep up this level of power production.

One good thing is Martin is walking more, he was hitting .300 early on in the season but his OBP has raised up to the .360 range as his discipline has gotten better.

A-Rod with a grand slam. Ridiculous. Helluva night for my fantasy team, with A-Rod and Martin.

Yeah this game has done wonders for me too, I have Alex, Cano, and Adam Jones in one league, with a hit a piece from Granderson and Gardner as cherries on top.

If that came from Buck I lost any respect I ever had for the man, that shit was right in the back of the neck!

I doubt he told the pitcher to throw at his head.

I don’t have a big issue with the move, just the execution. The O’s have become accustomed to getting their asses kicked year after year, so Buck is trying to get his guys to show some pride out there. Is it the best way to handle it? No, of course not. But he’s trying to get them to play like they give a shit. Its a baby step for a losing franchise.

BTW-Remember when Joe Maddon got the Rays to start playing that way, which resulted in Cervelli getting his wrist broken in a meaningless ST game? They went on to have a pretty good year, and that was a first step for them.

I have a problem with the move, Martin did nothing but hit 2 HRs if you aren’t good enough to get him out walk him. I don’t care what message he was sending, I don’t care about changing the attitude or anything else it’s busch! If Martin was trying to be Mr big nuts and pop the chain, or throwing the bat around, doing the Manny stare down, or even the Cano slow walk it’s one thing, but a man who is coming off a bunch of injuries, and doing things in nothing less than a class manor shouldn’t be popped like that.

Also if you listen to Goose Gossage talk managers have been known to directly tell pitchers to hit guys in the head, I honestly don’t care if he said “hit him” or “hit him in the head” either way I don’t like it, but it’s not unheard of for a manager to head hunt.

I consider myself old school in my baseball beliefs but this is one thing I don’t care for, somethings do deserve being hit, this wasn’t one of them. I know if Roger Clemens, Pedro or Randy Johnson was going to be on the mound tomorrow Buck wouldn’t pull that stuff.
