TYA Game Thread, Tuesday May 31st, 2011
The Yankees look to take their second straight game against the A’s tonight, and look to extend their overall win streak to three in a row after the two frustrating losses in Seattle this weekend. Here’s the lineup:
1. – SS
2. – CF
3. – 1B
4. – 3B
5. – 2B
6. – C
7. – RF
8. – DH
9. – LF
P – Freddy Garcia
Brett Anderson takes the mound for Oakland. Anderson has been good this year, accumulating a 2.84 ERA and a 3.13 FIP, which translates to a 141 ERA+ and a 1.18 WHIP. The game is on YES at 10pm. Enjoy.

If Swisher is really coming around, it will mean a lot to the club.

martin playing with a broken toe? or severely bruised. my question is why is he playing.very long season, can not play at 100%, what is the gain.the he is a tough guy, is good in boxing, any opinions out there

My opinion isn’t worth very much, but you asked. There is quite a range of injury that comes under the umbrella of a fracture, including small cracks in the surface of the bone. There might be fractures that really are not dangerous to play with. IF he’s not increasing the risk of further injury, then 80% of Martin is probably still better than Cervelli.
But that’s a lot of IF. Basically, I agree with you.

I hate when Gardner tries to bunt.

Not in love with that squeeze. Gardy looked like he was trying to bunt for a hit there, really needs to stay in the box and give himself up.

You’re right. On the squeeze, you don’t worry about getting on. You have to get the bunt down.
4th inning, 2-run lead against a weak-hitting club. Why bunt at all? Gardner can hit.

i agree, let him work on his hitting when up by a few runs, the guy just bothers me that he just don’t get it, sac but is just that, suicide squeeze, only one thing in mind ..contact..not drag .he has been doing this for years..if only he can get it..a weapon he should have mastered by now. if i was girardi he would spend hours bunting..until he got it. how good would he be if this guy can use his super speed..stealing and bunting this year has been a hugh problem..they should ask martin to give him some tips.
