I was perusing ‘s splits on Baseball Reference and some numbers jumped out at me.

His best inning is the fourth inning (1.57 ERA) and his worst inning is the eighth inning (5.40 ERA). His BABIP in August – which is 12.2 innings so far – is .390. His WHIP after two starts in August is 1.421 – his highest was May when it was 1.449 in five starts.

Kuroda was a tough luck loser the first and only time he faced the Texas Rangers this season. It was a game in Arlington in April when he was matched up against who shutdown the Yankees in 8 1/3 innings of work while Kuroda only surrendered two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Kuroda didn’t factor into the decision in his last start against Detroit on August 9 and on August 4 against Seattle was, once again, victimized by a stellar performance by his pitching counterpart. This time it was who shut the Yankees down by tossing a two-hit, complete game shutout. Poor Kuroda only gave up one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of work and was saddled with the loss.

I heard on MLBN that Pettitte expects to pitch from a mound around Sept 1st. Ugh! What’ll that give him 2 starts? He also said another set back and his season would be done.

I think Yankee fans have to seriously consider being with Andy & CC for the rest of the season.

  2. Phil C says:

Oki-san pitches extremely well at YS3. Harrison pitches very well on the road. Should be a good game.

  3. Phil C says:

Interesting DP. Nix almost waited too long to toss to Oki-san. Actually, I thought Andrus was safe.

  4. Professor Longnose says:

Missed the first inning reading all the YA posts.

  5. Professor Longnose says:

    Jorge!

  6. Professor Longnose says:

Don’t need Sabathia or Pettitte for the playoffs. We’ll just pitch Hiroki in all the games.

  7. Phil C says:

The Yankees need to get to Harrison before he gets his control back.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

Would have liked to see Granderson try to work the count there.

  9. Phil C says:

Harrison is at 66 pitches through 3 innings. He’s bending but not breaking. Due up next inning is a Hoagie, a Frenchy, and a Po Boy. They’ll start it off.

  10. Phil C says:

NOTE TO YANKEE BATTERS: It is considered rude in Japanese culture not to score at least 7 runs for a Japanese pitcher.

  11. Phil C says:

I understood with Granderson when Harrison had to make a pitch, but since then all the Yankees are too impatient. That was a 6 pitch inning. Disgraceful.

  12. smurfy says:

What a champion slinger is Cano. Great play!

  13. smurfy says:

    hiro is mahvelous!

  14. Phil C says:

I want some mo fo runs. And I want them this inning.

  15. smurfy says:

Hiro’s control has been so fine, it’s surprising to see him yank a pitch a yard wide.

  16. Phil C says:

Harrison’s out after 106 pitches? I thought Ryan wanted more than that. I’d prefer Harrison in the game to Ogando. Hopefully Swisher, Tex & Cano differ with me.

  17. smurfy says:

You were right on about Harrison, Phil. I like him, reminds me of CC. But his slider was undependable, and he was off his game. So I think.

I was going to ask you about a pitch, Phil, but I finally cranked up Gameday. Trying to see how to use it, but I can’t look back (to figure out a Hoagie from a Frenchie).

  18. smurfy says:

Hoo, boy, Swish likes. Me, too.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

    Line shot by Teixeira!

  20. Phil C says:

Sweeeeeeeet, Sweeeeeeet. I guess Swish & Tex do disagree with me.

  21. Phil C says:

Oki-san gets the John Deere player of the game award tonight because he just mowed them down.

  22. smurfy says:

Wow, what a pretty game Hiro’s pitched. nixy had just enough time on that bouncer to rev it up, and show good range. I believe Jete woulda gotten there, probably by breaking sooner.

  23. Professor Longnose says:

The Orioles are pounding the sockholes.

  24. Phil C says:

smurphy, did you get GameDay to cough up the info you wanted?

  25. Professor Longnose says:

This may be the Yankees’ best-pitched game of the year.

  26. Phil C says:

WOW! Oki-san is my Hiro as well tonight.

  27. Professor Longnose says:

    Nice game. Night, all.

  28. Phil C says:

For at least these two games the Yankees’ pitching has shut down the Rangers. I love it.

  29. Phil C says:

    Chat y’all tomorrow.
