Game Thread: Yankees versus Nationals, Sunday June 17th
The Yankees have won eight consecutive games coming into today’s matinee against the Nationals. All good things must come to an end but there is no reason why the team can’t make it nine straight wins. Incredible starting pitching has fueled the Yankee surge. Ironically, CC Sabathia has probably been the team’s worst starter during this stretch. Ivan Nova will toe the rubber for the Yankees today. He was brilliant in his last start, allowing no runs and just six base runners in seven innings. Hopefully he stays hot. The Nationals will counter with familiar foe Edwin Jackson. Jackson has pitched strong this year, posting a 1.01 WHIP and an ERA of 3.02. That’s all fine and good, but he’s still Edwin Jackson and the Yankees know him well. Enjoy.

Most poker sites open to US players also provide online casinos accepting USA players. A good example of this is BetOnline.com, where you can play 3D casino games, bet on sports or play poker from anywhere in the United States.

Welcome back TYA!!
Looks like the Yanks knocked Lidge right off the Nats roster.
Haha thats rough. You get beat up in your outing against the Yankees then lose your job. Wonder if Jackson is auditioning for a job in pinstripes? Yankees apparently almost had him in a trade about a week or two ago
Apparently a package of Eduardo Nunez, Nik Turley, and Ben Gamel or Kelvin DeLeon for a Nats starting pitcher. I can’t imagine it was either Strasburg, Gio, or Zimmerman but the deal obviously feel through
Where did you read that?
wow, that is quite the poop. Where does one go to find such juicy rumors?
Over at River Avenue Blues a while ago before the road trip started. Never heard about it until Larry K. a writer for this site moved over there. Usually I just stick to mlbtr.com and this site.
Nice job by Cano tagging on the fly ball.
yeah, and fine job of GOING WITH the outside pitch by Texy!
They hit the ball well, but only one run. Nova needs to shut them down.
Who’s that fast gun at second? It’s Robbie (Whew) Cano!
Nice shut down inning….and only 8 pitches. The ‘pen needs Nova to go deep today.
Nova does a very good job of going deep into games. I don’t remember the last time he has gone less than 6 innings even when he doesn’t have his best stuff.
Didn’t really have much doubt in my mind Cano was going to get him. Hes got a howitzer for an arm
What’s over the York on the front of the Yankees uniforms today?
Nationals have em too. Probably a commemerative symbol for fathers day
LOL…..I was typing the same thing at the same time.
Just noticed it over the W on the Nats uniforms? For Father’s Day?
#Obligatoryhomer
You really can’t be leaving pitches there Nova. Im concerned about that, if this is more than just some second year bad luck or if this is who he is.
At least no one was on. But that needs to be it for the game.
I’m surprised the Nats haven’t been shifting on Tex.
Al Leiter and the guys were talking about Davey and old school managers: “They been standing there a hunnerd years.” Al: “doesn’t mean it’s right.”
I’m watching on TBS, but I love me some Al Leiter!
yeah, put him on your dream announcers team
My dream team would be Costas for play-by-play, Leiter for commentary, and Boomer for fun.
I haven’t heard Boomer comment, but Coney’s great, too. I love Costas.
Ibanez nearly got that one, the liner foul.
Goodly battle, to be continued.
They’ve got Jackson up to 60 pitches. I hope that means he starts to tire in the 5th inning.
their bullpen was great, except for the lamented Lidge, but they too have to be winded.
Lets get some more grounders please…
Harper is vulnerable to the slider, but he handles the curve.
I don’t think Stewart’s as good behind the plate as advertised. Not just calling the game, but 5 pb’s so far, ugh!
I really don’t see what Stewart brings to the table. And as far as being CC’s personal catcher…the rest of the staff is doing amazing. CC is not. Every single pitcher who has thrown to Martin has done well, and CC with his personal catcher is sub par. Stewart doesn’t hit soo I would honestly welcome DFA and Cervelli call up. I miss Cervelli’s wacky facial expressions and as a backup hes fine. Hes got skills
I agree completely. Love Frankie’s enthusiasm.
I agree about cervelli, but I would hold the phone on Stewart. He’s come thru hitting, rather like Cervelli, in the clutch and quite a surprise. I think he’s a good receiver and caller, and time will tell.
The real problem right now is That Cervelli is the only other ML ready catcher in the Yankee organization.
LMAO at Nova’s bunting stance!! His ass was halfway to the dugout!!
Jackson’s pitching well, staying awway from the hitters. Lots of late movement, tricky.
Good thing were not in Yankee stadium. Nova wouldve given up 3 homers today
LaRoche’s was nearly a dupe, and there was another off the scoreboard. I hate thaty scoreboard. Better to get true bounces off a fence.
4-6-3 inning over. NICE!
Curtis, Curtis, he’s our man!
Jackson was living dangerously with Grandy, both pitches were up.
Arod is spoiling for it. Hit that one well.
Texy just missed a beauty. Bet he wishes he hadn’t confused himself, going to left sometimes.
Let’s see if Nova can shut them down now.
Bunt against me, will you? Duck!
Love them purpose pitches!
Me too! Will you get your face away from the plate please Mr. Jackson?
Nice job by Nova, but why in God’s name did they throw another curve ball to Harper?
I expect some Yankee runs this inning.
Just saying……
Feels like its been a while since I got a Tex message.
Nice swinging bunt, Stewie!
I bet if Garner was on third it would have been a squeeze bunt.
I do really miss Gardner. Wish the Yankees had more speed guys like him
We’ve got Grandy, a registered offender, but Joe doesn’t seem to want to play the squeeze game much. I remember some double steals last year, tho.
Last year the Yanks were among the league leaders in steals. Now without Gardner & Nunez they’re missing the speed aspect of the game.
Jones should have gone on the fly ball to Harper. I think coaches should be more aggressive because it takes an almost perfect throw and even good arms like Harper can’t do it most of the time.
Hey, everyone. Was listening on the radio while driving. Just got to the computer. How goes?
Nova has what guys? 65 pitches heading into the bottom of the 6th now. He poised to go deep. Has a few scary long balls and gave up a homer (but youve come to expect that) but has pitched well
Typical game as of late. Great starting pitching. Good hitting, except w/RISP.
howdy, Prof!
Nova is being really economical. He might go the entire way…if this wasn’t an NL game
Wow! A 4 pitch inning. I love over aggressive hitters. (On the other team that is.)
No shit! 4 pitches, shezam!
Nobody has remarked on Morse’s curious habit of bringing his face close to his bat, and kissing the ball in his imagination, just before he bats.
Cmonnn homers!! I want more of them!
You got it.
You called it!
glad you asked! Woohoo, Robbie!
Half a Tex message too.
Keep looking Harper
Gorzelanny was today’s Lidge.
Poor Brad Lidge. He’s been trying to hang on for a while.
yeah, he was really happy a couple years back. But I think he gets to keep a free agent’s million or two, to console him.
Someone will pick him up. I hope it’s the Os or the Rays.
Oh, I’d signup for his career in a second.
But he had one of those seasons that’s a byproduct of the free agent era: a year when he stunk, but his team kept sending him out there. That must have been brutal in a way that even stinking and getting sent home doesn’t.
Better than RISP: an embarrassed opponent!
Brain freeze = run!!!
Andrew Jones is always smiling
It will lead to premature facial wrinkles.
One more shut down inning by Nova.
I would let Nova start the 8th if he can shut them down and make it through this inning under 95 pitches
Man, Lombardazzi scared me with that foul liner. What a shot. He has hit well this weekend.
Whew. That ball was tagged, but right at Ibanez.
yeah, my breath caught on that one.
Nova’s struggling with his command. Settle down…..could use a dp now.
Ken Singleton just said, “Feed him a DP pill.”
I’m on the save wavelength as Singleton? Ugh!
Could be worse. Could be Kay.
Let Nova throw in the 8th or no?
No, he’s losing his commend. Robertson needs the work.
I can’t argue with Girardi sending him out in the 8th if Robertson is up & ready as soon as someone gets on base with less than 2 outs.
Perfect! Nova made it thru seven, and he leads off this inning.
Nice going, Ivan! (that’s my vote, Michael)
Not pretty, but no runs. Will they let Nova bat?
Yes! Glad to see them let him hit and more so, let him pitch in the 8th
Wow, Ivan worked him to 3-0.
Yeah, Michael, he’s got a 3 run lead, but he might be sloppy, but uh, Joe knows.
Wow he walked out of the batters box before the catcher caught it on 5 straight pitches lol. Work that count Nova
That was six! Did you miss the helicopter swing? Oh, you meant AFTER he swung…
Let’s hear it for Ivan!
muy bueno, Papacito!
Where’s Pedro for Father’s Day. “Who’s your Daddy?”
would love to see the players’ bemusement if that cheer sounded for Ivan.
I-Van, I-Van
I think that after his early struggles, Super Nova is back.
he’s doing real good, mixing up. But fb command needs tightening, somethings a little off there: the fb that leaked into the middle; not many grounders. Did not see his slider after the first, I think.
A double double day!
Fine as wine outside; but the US Open is attractive, too.
US Open? Ahh golf you mean. Or tennis? lol
devilish golf, the pro’s challenged.
Cano, Nova, and Tex all having pretty good days today. Maybe one more homer Jones? Please?
I think you got greedy.
But we all know that greed is good.
“I’m sorry for calling you Michael Douglas. I see your value now.” – Abed
Aaaaaaaand now I can go to work lol
sweep, sweep, sweep
Back to The Bronx & the Braves. CC don’t let us down. Chat y’all tomorrow!
See you later, guys in a hurry. Al Leiter was pointing out something interesting: Soriano’s delivery: he looks down, comes set – and takes the sign – and continues to rock back, and…
What if he doesn’t like the sign? Isn’t he going to balk if he stops?
whut? You’re all gone?!
