• Aside from the 2 games in Japan last week, the opening of Marlins ball park last night, and the 7 games played today, baseball hasn’t begun yet! I’m not saying the other teams aren’t important, but it doesn’t feel like opening day until the Yankees play. Our own William Juliano looks at the opening dates for the Yankees since they launched as a franchise called the Baltimore Orioles.
  • The Bronx Bombers might not be playing, but their affiliates are. In Scranton, the team is being no hit by Phillies starter Tyler Cloyd. (Game Day) In Trenton, Ronnier Mustelier and Abraham Almonte have both doubled. (Game Day) In Tampa, Nik Turley pitched phenomenally, Going 5.0 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts (!). (Box Score) And the Charleston game was suspended before the first inning could be completed. In Mason William’s only Riverdogs at bat, he hit a triple. (Game Day)
  • A couple notes on today. The big righty and had no pain his arm, now we wait to see if the shoulder inflames after the workout. Larry Rothschild also worked with Pineda in the bullpen, . The pitching coach said that Pineda was getting around the ball in March, unlike last year when he was in line with the plate.

I thought the news that Pineda was already throwing was pretty big news. Especially with how conservative Girardi is about injuries. Hopefully he can become as good as the GM predicted.

If he comes back from this 100%, and there is currently no reason he shouldn’t, Pineda has the potential to be every bit as good as CC Sabathia. With the advanced way he took to actually pitching and the ability he has to locate pitches the sky is really the limit. He could average 93 on his fastball and still have ace potential with that slider and his advanced abilities.
