Game 160-Tampa’s Last Stand
Final series of the year for the Yanks, and while the Yanks have nothing left to play for, the Rays are battling for their playoff lives. The Yanks are fielding a decent lineup, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the starters get pulled early even if the game is close. The Red Sox better win their games facing the O’s if they don’t want to play on Thursday, because I don’t think the Yanks care if they get swept. They just want everyone rested and ready for Friday night.
Here’s your lineup, courtesy of LoHud:
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez DH
Jorge Posada 1B
Eric Chavez 3B
Russell Martin C
Eduardo Nunez RF
Brett Gardner LF
Hector Noesi gets the start for the Yanks, facing big game James Shields. That tells you just how much this series means to the Yanks.
GO YANKS!!!!!!!

I don’t know what game to watch.
Red Sox had second and third, two out in the first but didn’t score.
Yanks lead 1-0 on Cano’s HR. Why couldn’t he have hit that yesterday? He and Granderson were terrible.
wow… wow…wow
That homerun is why I should watch this. Did you hear that sweet sound? Feel free to report back when something exciting has, or better, is happening, over in Baltimore. Deal?
It’s particularly bittersweet, that Varitek took the wrong one for the team, last night. Josh is challenged, or ia set up for excuse, by wife expecting, bum ankle, and now, an unusual catcher.
Angle led off the first with a single and stolen base, but Beckett got out of it.
Tigers got a hit in the first but no runs. Texas starts at 10:00.
Did you catch the end of the game yesterday? I listened to the rest of it on the radio. it got me so upset, I couldn’t sleep for hours. Scott Proctor?! Grrrrr….
yeah, and I felt stupid. I was tired, and we knew how it would go. And, yeah, Proctor entered with a sense of dread.
Egad! Red Sox scored a run on a ridiculous throw from left field to nowhere.
surprised the left fielder would do that. He’s good, reminds me of Ty Cobb.
Wieters intercepted it in foul territory on the first base side and threw it to home stretched out full on the ground, The throw beat the runner, but the pitcher covering couldn’t hold on.
wow…wow…wow
Hector was challenged by a determined team, in their own pressure. First and third, one out, Zobrist up, runner goes from first Zobrist line-grounds one that Jorge gloves at first, turned, man’s at second, but throws home, and surprises Upton at home, and tags him tiptoeing in, meekly. Replay shows Martin was too gentle applying the tag, and let him score. But no, the ump agrees with Posada: this is a quality show.
I missed it, watching the Sox. I could tape them, but I can’t see putting in that much time.
yeah, it’s nasty missing maybe both games’ good plays. I’ll switch, but maybe try to see Josh pitching, a little.
O’s tied it with a solo HR by Wieters.
Detroit 1, Cleveland 0.
Noesi gave up a line drive to a lefty, a wild pitch, then handled Kotchman on a pop, and got a grounder to third.
I’m rooting for Noesi to be dominating but only pitch 5 innings, and then Proctor to come in and pitch the final four.
well, that’s when we switch. I’ll cover Baltimore.
PROCTOR SHOULD PITCH TONIGHT TUES. AND WED..WHY DID JOE TAKE THE KID OUT?
Cano is hot. Just lined a low one thru the hole first-second, to plate Gardner. Jeter to second. 1 out.
Amazing. Commercials on all three games.
that’s when I try to write a comment.
WHO YOU ROOTING FOR IN TIGERS GAME
Gotta root for the Tigers to win and the Rangers to lose. Rangers don’t start until 10:00.
i’m not worried about verlander he can be beat how many innings does he have in his arm ,and you only need to be careful with cabrera and martinez..i would like tigers
I think the Yanks have a good chance to beat Detroit, too, but they match up so well against the Rangers starters.
Beckett, on a quick look, pitching to Angle, looks to have good command, be in control. Question is whether he gives up some onesies, and whether the Sox score. are they tripping up, or positively determined?
They seem a lot looser with that win yesterday.
On this date in 1953, Billy Hunter became the last St. Louis Brown to homer.
just filling time?
They showed that on the Baltimore broadcast, so I figured I might as well pass it on.
when did the Browns leave Boston for St Looie? 30′s?
1953.
Sorry–Browns left St. Louis for Baltimore in 1953. They were never in Boston.
Solo HR for Jed Lowrie. 2-1 Boston.
4-0 Detroit. That’s good for the Yanks.
why good? I’d rather face Texas. Oohh, we face the one with the lesser win %.
Noesi gave up the lead, two run double, a hot one down third base line by BJ Upton, who also looks hot. Valdez is about ready to come in.
Now a single by Longo. Joe’s out to pull Noesi.
Valdez K’s Zobrist, a curve on the 2-2, with men at the corners. 1 out now.
Noesi didn’t last long.
nope, he looked shaky, but came thru a couple times.
Damon snuck one thru. 3-2, Rays.
Picked off Damon, via Martin’s throw to second. Damon was 2/3 there. Then got Longo coming home: doubley play the strange way!
Our guys were sharp. You could see Derek watching Longo while running down Johnny, then Posada took the tag, and turned and threw perfectly, off balance.
6-0 Tiggers.
(The wonderful thing about Tiggers…)
It’s Ubaldo who’s getting pounded for the Indians.
glad we passed on U
I suppose he could just be having a bad year, but it doesn’t look like a great deal right now.
Peedy is misplaced.
Baltimore announcers were ripping on Pedroia. There was a little girl in a promotion running across the field, and they claimed they couldn’t tell if it was the little girl or Pedroia.
Nuney with another sweet long liner! Just over Jennings for a double.
Shoppach goes solo off Valdez. 4-2.
go rays.. markakis lets go
Jete lined one deep in the gap. Jennings laid out jumping toward the wall, a snow cone.
O’s have something going inthe 5th: first and second, no one out.
Davis singled in a run. Still no one out, 2-2.
They bunted the runners over, then Beckett walked a hitter. Bases loaded, one out.
Beckett got out of it. Still tied.
Phil is pitching, looks good at 94. But Curtis has run down two long drives, first to his right, then to his left, both near the wall.
His command is not there. Walked two.
Now the ump throws out Martin for something said while catching.
I saw that. I don’t think umps should be standing in front of catchers like that.
martin should have spit on his shoe
the umps are watching espn, mlbn too much.
9-3 Detroit.
Guerrero just became the all-time Dominican hit leader.
good for him! He’s been a helluva player.
He has been. And fun to watch.
Damn site went down! Just when the game got great.
i will be at the game tomorrow with my yankee wear ……rooting for the rays
Cool. I’m rooting for a play-in game Thursday.
15 innings sux lose on a pedroia error would be nice
ha ha ha
yeah, it was running slow all night, then just wouldn’t load.
That inside-the-park homer was amazing. Ellsbury actually caught it, but hit the wall and it popped out.
I was lucky to switch over just in time to see it! Poor Joshy.
And they had him dead at home, but the throw bounced thru Salty’s legs. Shoulda been a triple and an error. Shouldn’t blame Ellsbury.
Can’t blame Ellsbury, who went a long way to get to it. But once it was in his glove, it had to stay there.
Could have sworn I saw the score as 9-3 Detroit, but it ended up 14-0.
Yankee Stadium is cheering Shields striking out Cano. Bizarre.
the sux made us hate them that much..their fans make it easy…beckett getting lit up makes it even better
They cheered Kotchman’s single. They’re booing Jeter’s nice play!
I’m getting a kick out of the Red Sox collapse, but I wouldn’t boo the Yankees!
I must be out of my mind. This isn’t the Stadium!
all the yankee fans fooled you.
Sox have the bases loaded with one out. That’s tying run at the plate.
Saltalamacchia struck out. Two out, bases still loaded. Scutaro up.
Scutaro grounded out. Three outs to go for the Sox, 6-2 O’s.
Kyle Weiland (!) now in to pitch the bottom of the 8th.
Going to the 9th, 6-2 O’s.
Texas already leading the Angels 1-0.
Pedroia singles in Elss bury., 6-3 with one out.
A single to short for Ortiz, and the Sox have the tying run at the plate again.
Gonzalez flies out to left. Two down, still tying run at the plate.
down to Lowrie…
and Lowrie went down!
Beautiful. I hope there’s a game Thursday.
‘Night.
K! The wild card race is TIED!
looks like the ruddy sox are bleeding out
the streets of boston will smell like piss tonight
