TYA Game Thread, Tuesday June 21, 2011: Rain Out
Unfortunately, tonight’s game has been postponed due to rain. The two teams are scheduled to play a day-night double header tomorrow. Freddy Garcia will start the day game and will get the ball in the night cap. and will only start one game each.
This isn’t quite the loss it seems, from a fan’s perspective. Tomorrow’s game was always meant to be a day game. Provided watching Wednesday night is as easy as it would be to watch Tuesday night everyone breaks even. Use this as the open thread.

When Derek Jeter returns from the disabled list, he should bat ninth. Bat him leadoff when he’s going into a game with 2,999 hits then once he collects his 3,000th hit, bat him ninth the next game and thereafter. If he doesn’t like it he can retire or request a trade to an NL team after this year.
Gardner and Swisher are better OBP men than Jeter.
Jeter is the worst Yankee everyday non-pitcher field player and hitter.
What can Jeter do that another everyday field player can’t?
Discuss.

Pretty silly comment. Have you ever run a business? Jeter will bat first or second the rest of the year. Regarding your question, “what can Jeter do that another everyday field player can’t?,” when the Yankees get to the post season I would suggest he can’t be replaced….and that is the season that matters most.

Pretty silly comment? Why? Elaborate.
Gardner and Swisher have much higher OBPs than Jeter. One has more speed and stolen base ability than Jeter (Gardner) while the other has more power than Jeter (Swisher.) Jeter doesn’t have stolen base ability or power anymore and he’s not as fast as Gardner. So how is he a better leadoff hitter than both in 2011 not 2009 or 2006?
Martin – Can play defense and hit for power. Jeter can’t.
Texiera – Can play Gold Glove defense, hit for power, drive in 100 or more runs, and post .380 or higher OBP. Jeter can’t, and Jeter winning the Gold Glove for SS last year was a joke.
Cano – Can play Gold Glove defense, hit for power, drive in 100 or more runs, post .300 or better BA. Jeter can’t.
A-Rod – Can hit for power, drive in 100 or more runs, and hit 280 or better. Jeter can’t.
Gardner – Can steal bases, post a .370 or better OBP. Jeter cant.
Granderson – Can hit for power, drive in 80 or more runs, steal bases, and play Gold Glove caliber defense. Jeter can’t.
Swisher – Can hit for power, drive in 80 or more runs, and post .350 or better OBP. Jeter can’t.
Jeter can be replaced in the postseason cuz we’re talking May 2010 on Jeter. Nunez could easily be the next Brian Doyle – remember him? Daryl Porter and Pat Borders were World Series MVPs.
Let me know when you return from your visit to 2009 or earlier.

$17 million dollars. I agree at some point Jeter will probably move down in the order but he will be the one to make the decision. Thats what I meant about running a business. The mistake was giving him all those years. So you have to live with your business decision. By your comments, and they are all valid and solid appraisals of each player, the result would be to put Jeter on the bench. Do you really think that’s going to happen?

Boston is 27-9 / playing .750 ball in their last 36 games and is only a game ahead of the Yankees HAHAHAHAHAHA.

That truly is amazing, considering we are 1 – 8 against them. You know that will (hopefully) turn in the second half.
