There’s little point sugar coating this stretch of awful play from the Yankees, but I do believe in emphasizing the positive. At the very least the Bombers (?) have been able to score runs before losing their last two games. That’s all I got.

Game time tonight is 6:40pm on My 9. Here are the lineups:

Yankees:

– SS
Curtis Granderson – CF
– 1B
– 3B
– 2B
– C
– DH
– LF
– RF

 - P

Rays:

– LF
– 2B
– DH
– 3B
Matt Joyce – RF
– CF
– 1B
– SS
- C

– P

The Yankees called up Dickerson now that is on the DL.  is out with an illness. Apparently Posada’s time out is over. Enjoy.

Not with Dickerson in the lineup… I agree if it was a normal lineup day he should be 8th or 9th, but Dickerson has been in triple A before this game.

Alex isn’t locked in yet but his timing has been getting better, and he’s starting to male contact with authority again. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him get really hot, soon.

  4. Well, ARod has two so far tonight, and both of ‘em no doubters. There may be life in that bat yet!

    Jeter looks like dogshit.

The Yankees should bench him right after he collects his 3000th hit in favor of Nunez then give (Jeter) an offseason ultimatum:

Accept a buyout of half his remaining salary ($20.5M) or be released.

He makes $20.5M if he agrees to a buyout then has the option to retire or sign a one year deal with whoever (Giants?) If he somehow coaxed some team to give him a year and $7.5M (half his 2011 salary), that’s $28M total for 2012. If he made just $5M for 2013, that’s $33M for 2012-13, the same amount of money he’d make if he remained a Yankee.

Basically, he’d be losing his $8M player option, but he would have some nerve picking that up if he finished 2013 with .240/.260/.280, 4 HR, and 30 RBI. I’d release him right after he picked up that option.

Hey, A-Rod actually did something tonight. Too bad the rest of this team is dead from the neck up save Granderson who gets a pass because of last night and basically his entire 2011.

My biggest complaint with Robertson is that he doesn’t know how to throw the Andy Pettitte higher than high fastball intended to get a swing and miss. He always throws the high fastball right at the top of the numbers, like he is looking for the called strike. It’s a hard pitch to master, because you need it high without being too high, but he would do much better with the ability to control that location.

    Mike Jaggers-Radolf Reply:

Fair enough to argue that Robertson can’t throw that pitch, but for two plus seasons now Robertson has been a plus to excellent reliever who the Yankees can use in high leverage situations because of his legitimate swing and miss stuff. I look forward to him being in the bullpen for some time. A lot of pitchers never master things Andy Pettitte made look easy.

    T.O. Chris Reply:

Very true, Andy is one of a kind, but it’s also a fairly prevalent pitch for almost any master strikeout pitcher as well. Odd that he wouldn’t have been able to do it. However I guess he isn’t the true definition of a strikeout pitcher, with his velocity and all.

I like Robertson, never intended it to sound like I down, I just don’t think he has what it takes to be a closer as some do. However I love him as that middle inning, clutch situation, where you can’t bring in a closer but need an important out(s).

Given how wild Robertson is, I’m not surprised that he struggles with what is essentially a mixture between a finesse and power pitch.

On the subject of Robertson’s velocity, in Sports Illustrated recently, Tom Verducci I believe, wrote an article explaining that Robertson extends his arm when he throws more than almost any other pitcher in baseball. This has the effect of allowing him to release the ball closer to the batter than most other pitchers. Given that the ball is gunned coming out of the pitchers hand and slows as it reaches the batter the article cited doppler radar data that suggested that Robertson’s pitches travel less distance, slow down less, and actually have the effect of having +2 mph on the radar gun as compared to a normal release point.

That’s a long way of saying he’s sneaky fast. Plus he has that 12-6 curve.

    T.O. Chris Reply:

Well to that point I remember in 2009 when FOX was showing the velocity of the pitches as reached the plate, Robertson’s 91-92 MPH fastball was getting to the plate at the same velocity as Burnett’s 93-94-95 MPH stuff. So he really does pitch a lot closer to a flame thrower than his MPH shows, it really makes you re-think the gun.

Not really sure what it means, but it’s a cool stat. Over the past 3 years David Robertson has actually done better with runners on than with the bags cleared.

None on in 196 ABs .250/.350/.439/.788 with 8 HRs

Runners on base in 200 ABs .230/.326/.300/.626 with 1 HR

Runners in scoring position in 124 ABs .250/.333/.347/.680 with 1 HR

  7. Jorge just rapped his 2nd hit of the night. I feel like this is a re-run of a 2009 game.

Look at Girardi taking out a guy and bringing in Mo for one out with the Yankees leading 6-2 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth LOL.

    What a fuckin’ nitwit.

    Burn Mo some more whydon’tcha?

I can’t make heads or tails out of this guy, I really can’t,

We’ve lost 6 games in a row, Mariano already warmed up tonight so he effectively pitched anyway, and if Damon hit a 3 run HR right their it’d be a save situation and a 1 run game.

Hopefully A-Rod’s swing is back and soon the others will follow. Good win. Bullpen is gonna be lacking tomorrow probably no Joba or Robertson.

I was wondering where the Nova comments were! I thought he did a great job. Plus, that KC start wouldn’t have been half as bad if we didn’t botch several plays in the field.
