I didn’t watch this one, so this will be brief. If I had to sum up my thoughts on the whole series in Detroit, they would be this: Get out of there! The Yankees clearly don’t like playing in Comerica.

I don’t know if was good or bad. He pitched seven innings, allowing five runs, but only two of them were earned.

Three runs scored on Yankee errors, one by Burnett, and a two run error by Eduardo Nunez. Nunez was also 2-4. If not for the errors and ‘s quest for 3,000, I’d argue there’s a risk Jeter gets ‘d this season.

broke his foot in this one, so that was fun while it lasted. pinch ran for him, the first time he’s been a pinch runner since 1995. He went 2-2.

appears to have been strong against the Yankee offense, but given what we’ve seen in Detroit that’s not hard.

The Yankees go to Texas tomorrow. Hopefully that ballpark will help wake up the bats. Despite losing three in a row the Yankees are still in first place with a one game lead over Tampa.

Another frustrating loss. Though it wasn’t one of those dreadful RISP days, Porcello was not exactly tossing a gem either. The Yanks rapped out 8 hits and drew a couple walks, but bounced into a couple DPs, and couldn’t bunch their hits into a strong rally.

Most frustrating of all though, is that AJ did pitch well. Unfortunately, the entire 3 run margin in this game can be chalked up to AJ throwing a pick off attempt past Tex, and Nunez tossed what should’ve been the third out past Tex, allowing 2 more runs to score.

So yeah, if the Yankees could just throw to first, they would’ve at least had a chance to take this one in extras. Ugly.

I was hoping someone would fill me in on what lead the unearned runs, thank you! I missed the game as Mike did I guess.

Fuck Eduardo Nunez. If he can’t get his shit together with his defense, he has NO PLACE wearing a New York Yankees uniform. Five errors for a backup/spot 2B/SS is absolutely unacceptable!!!

He isn’t working hard enough and/or he’s not playing enough.

The Yankees should send him down to AAA so he can play every day or almost every day and/or get his act together with his defense or trade him.

Great job by the Yankees losing last night and today and not gaining a game or two on Boston who (finally) lost to the Angels last night and today.

How did Chavez break his foot? I only just read that part of the game notes a while ago? I saw Alex was a pinch runner for him, so I assume it happened running to first?

remember wang breaking his foot..same way ,you can’t see a place on the replay and say ,oh it was there..no twisting or hitting the bag wrong..strange, no slide..

    Well that’s not very encouraging…

I keep reading foot, but I was watching baseball tonight just a little bit a go and they said it was his toe. Is there any confirmation from the Yankees themselves, or Chavez, on the exact nature of the break or where it is on the foot?

    bornwithpinstripes Reply:

what i read was the long bone leading to the pinky toe

Wow, that’s actually the most informative information on the break I’ve gotten. Thanks!

I suppose that means he could be out for quite some time then, after Pedroia’s broken foot last year, and Wangs before that the foot break seems to be very tricky.

Hey Born, I actually read not long ago that they plan to bring up Pena to replace Chavez. There is some consideration for Vasquez (which sounds like the bat you want called up) but it sounds like they want it to be Ramiro. They must like his versatility since he can play OF, pinch run, backup 3rd, and replace Nunez as the backup SS, but I don’t really care for both him and Nunez on the bench. Vazquez has shown good power numbers but his lack of walks isn’t the best sign for the next level.

Sounds like once again we will be in the market for a bench bat come trade time. I wouldn’t mind looking into Jerry Hairston Jr once again if he’s available, although I can’t seem to remember where signed off the top of my head. I know he’s starting because of an injury, but for some reason I can’t think of the team to know how well their doing.

So we will be looking for at minimum a mid rotation starter, and a bench bat, preferably right handed. I say mid rotation because I just can’t see any ace cailber pitcher available, and Felix Hernandez is a pipe dream with no chance of happening.

I actually wouldn’t mind the Yankees looking into Edwin Jackson for the right price. I obviosuly wouldn’t be trading Montero for him as Bleacher Report wants to do, but for the right small end package he would be a nice middle rotation starter.

He’s had some rough starts here and their over the course of this season and the past few years, he’s that kind of pitcher, but he has incredible stuff and his in depth numbers are not bad at all.

So far in 7 starts Jackson has a 4.98 ERA but his 3.83 FIP and 3.71 xFIP are right in line with the 4.47 ERA, 3.86 FIP, 3.71 xFIP he put up last season. Over the last 2 seasons he has posted a 3.5 WAR (2009) and a 3.8 WAR (2010), he’s no ace but he’s a more than solid 3-4 starter that would allow us to take one of the 3 long term question marks out of the rotation. He would also give inssurance in case Hughes doesn’t return, or doesn’t return effective this season.

The Sox are looking to go nowhere fast, he doesn’t have long left on his contract, and I imagine he could be had for a couple of lesser ranked pitching prospects. Noesi springs to mind as one of the guys who would probably be involved. Edwin has also pitched in the AL East before as a member of the Rays which means he understand to some degree what he would be stepping into, and he has improved quite a bit since his days with the Rays as well.

He isn’t going to win us the Series, or single handedly save our year, but I could think of plenty worse as a 4th starter in a playoff series. Plus he wouldn’t cost enough to prevent us from aquiring another higher end pitcher if that opportunity presented its self.

At least for now the rotation would look like Sabathia,Burnett, Jackson, Colon, and Nova, but no one expects Colon to hold up all year and Hughes will be on a mound again at some point in some way.

i think hughes is done for the year..maybe as a bullpen arm. the poor guy is just snake bit..real nice guy..been rooting for him since someone tip me off about him…

i think if cash makes a deal it will be a hugh one..a #1 starter..all that money coming off in the next two years, no big names are free agents..boy would i like to have that .370 average sitting in AAA on our bench and part time DH..

I didn’t know where to post this so I’m just going to throw it in here because after losing 3 games in a row I think we could all use a great laugh.

I know I should never read Bleacher report but sometimes I just can’t help but see how bad they still are, and they really never seem to fail. Without further ado I give you the 10 pitchers Shaun McPartlin of Bleacher Report would trade Jesus Montero for.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/685650-yankees-trade-ideas-10-phil-hughes-replacements-ny-can-get-for-jesus-montero

In case anyone doesn’t want to waste time in reading his explanation of each pitcher I will go ahead and give you his 1-10 list.

    1. Dan Haren
    2. C.J. Wilson
    3. Gavin Floyd
    4. Brett Myers
    5. Bronson Arroyo
    6. Mark Buehrle
    7. Francisco Liriano
    8. Fausto Carmona
    9. Edwin Jackson
    10. Erik Bedard

Personally I say lets trade not only Montero for Brett Myers but add in Banuelos, Betances, and Brackman and shoot for the worst trade of all time. If we can’t win the Series we can at least make a top 10 list on the MLB Network!

    T.O. Chris Reply:

I guess I should add that he is saying that all these trades would be 1-1, and he believes that Montero’s .250 BA in Spring Training proves he will be a bust who can’t hit major league pitching. He is in favor of trading Montero before he lowers his stock anymore, and he seems to believe that because no other teams in baseball are banging down our door for Jesus it proves that the Yankees value Montero way more than any other organization.

Betances, Banuelos, Brackman, and Montero to Seattle for Felix Hernandez.

Andy Pettitte brought out of retirement.

    1. Hernandez
    2. Sabathia
    3. Burnett
    4. Pettitte
    5. The best starter among Nova, Colon, and Garcia when Hernandez and Pettitte arrive, or Hughes if he comes back and is better than all of them.

    The 2012 Yankees ideal rotation:

Same rotation 1-3, Hughes and Nova are the backend.

If Seattle wants to delude themselves into thinking they can become a contender with a two or three years older Hernandez and Ichiro, then so be it. They will never receive a better offer than the one I gave above.

I think Cashman would love to make a deal for a Felix Hernandez, Josh Johnson type but honestly I just don’t see it happening, and there is no way we can go through the whole season with Garcia, Colon and Nova on the back end because likely one if not 2 of them will either get hurt or fall off the table. Because of that he will probably end up making a move for a mid rotation starter, and in that mold Edwin Jackson makes tons of sense.

I makes tons of sense to go after a mid rotation guy like him for the exact reason you mentioned though, there is no one worth singing in free agency next season. CC may opt out as well, and while Jackson doesn’t solve anything at the top of the rotation if does give you a very solid number 3/4 starter for not only the rest of this season but next year as well.

“i think hughes is done for the year..maybe as a bullpen arm. the poor guy is just snake bit..real nice guy..been rooting for him since someone tip me off about him…”

I think you may be right and he may be out for the year in some way, but I think the Yankees are going to do whatever they can to at least get him back on the mound once. Even if they end up putting him back on the DL, or in the bullpen as you mentioned. Unless he just tells them I can’t do it shut me down, they will try and find some way to see if he can pitch again this season.
