OK, NOW Teixeira is having a good April.

If he can maintain even a decent first month of the season he has the ability to win the MVP. Teixeira has that kind of power and ability he just has simply taken himself out of the running almost ever year in the first month by digging himself into a hole so deep he can’t see day.

In 2009 Teixeira lead the league in HRs with 39, drove in 122 and maintained a .380 OBP after hitting .200 with 3 HRs in April. What could he have done with even an average first 70 ABs of the year?

  2. Yeah, guess I’m pretty happy the Yanks didn’t end up signing Penny .

    Professor Longnose Reply:

You’d think he would have figured out that he’s an NL pitcher. Or at least the Tigers would have figured that out.

As for your article, the Yanks were collecting longshots over the season, not looking for a Number 2 starter. From that point of view, Penny might as well have been on the list.

New pitching coach, same old manic AJ Burnett.

    Professor Longnose Reply:

Actually, since so far this is neither a 13-strikeout masterpiece nor a 13-run disaster, it seems less manic than last year.

    Does it really matter?

He’s always going to be a guy who is great one pitch, one inning, one game and awful the very next, believing otherwise at this point in his career is only going to lead to disappointment.

The key for Burnett is, and has always been, trying to limit the bad stretches to as short a time as possible. With his off-field issues and the absence of his pitching coach (for a time) I think it was harder for him (and the coaching staff) to do last year.

Russell Martin!!! Welcome to the Bronx Bombers!

  4. Professor Longnose says:

Ho, I guess it doesn’t matter much, although if he were consistently mediocre rather than up and down, the Yankees wouldn’t be out of games he pitches like last year.

    Martin is looking good.

    Professor Longnose Reply:

    Sorry, “No”, not “Ho”.

Haha I kind of like it better as ho. It makes you sound like some baseball loving pimp who also loves to browse Yankee blogs haha.

I’d rather AJ be up and down instead of simply mediocre at all times. He may not give you the same headache that way but he also isn’t worth keeping around if he’s consistently OK, I mean as much as we all hate the 3 innings, 9 runs, 2 K games, you put up with it because you know he can just as easily throw a CG 1 hitter.

BTW I didn’t mean for that first post to come off sounding pissy or anything, I’m a little sick so I didn’t read it out loud to see how it sounds and it comes off a little bit bad.

I had no problem with your comment. (It’s so easy to write comments that come off differently than intended. But still, I refuse to use emoticons!)

  5. Welcome to the Majors, Brayan Villareal!

Alex really looks good in the early going swing wise and body wise. He really has the recoil in his hips back, even when he misses you can see the fluidity, speed and power in his hips.

    Professor Longnose Reply:

He really does. What a kick if he has a monster year.
