Not only are the Yankees playing badly, but they’re also playing unlucky. Obviously everyone is furious over last night’s blown call, but the smartest thing for fans and team alike is to move on quickly. (Adding injury to the insult: re-injured his calf on the play and will miss today’s game.) You knew it would come to this. The winner of today’s game goes home with sole possession of first place. This is the biggest game of the 2012 season. If the Yankees lose they may not have another clean shot at hanging onto first place. So, who’s on the mound? . The O’s counter with . Enjoy!

  1. Phil C says:

Well, here we go again. Leaving Baltimore in 1st place would be big. After today the Yanks have two tough series left: 3 games vs. TB, 3 vs. Oak. Also, 6 vs. Bos, 7 vs Tor and 3 vs. Minn. Even crippled they could make a good run at the division title.

  2. smurfy says:

Boy, talk about demoralizing. “Oh, the Yankees may be without Teixera for a week, or -hey- it could be the whole season.”

Boy shoulda shut it down when he felt unexpected tightness earlier. He knows his body, but put this new info into the formula.

The Yankees want to prove they can win on one leg?

  3. Professor Longnose says:

Can one of you tell me why I keep coming back to the games and suffering?

  4. Professor Longnose says:

By the way, I haven’t heard Kay talking lately about Swisher getting better pitches to hit in the second spot.

  5. Professor Longnose says:

What base is that schmuck umpire at today?

  6. Professor Longnose says:

    That’s what we needed–more GIDPs.

  7. smurfy says:

Delighted by Britton’s help. Good Swish, waiting him out (except for the first pitch, shoulda blasted it). Never mind.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

    Hits >>>> DPs.

  9. Phil C says:

That RBI single by Cano is the Yankees 125th of season. They have 125 solo HRs.

    Sorry, its 124 solo HRs

  10. Phil C says:

I’m watching on TBS. Have they said anything on YES about Jeter? Looked like he was running funny. After the inning went down the walk way with the trainer.

  11. smurfy says:

Kay and Singy are all sour grapes, so I’m joining you, Phil. Maybe I’ll try Gameday again.

  12. Phil C says:

Nice low pitch count by Freddy. 21 pitches for 2 innings. But he lived dangerously with Reynolds, a few pitches were up.

  13. Phil C says:

All these GBs the Yankees are hitting is getting ridiculous and boring. The way to fix that is to bat standing on their heads. That way the ball will go up rather than down.

  14. Professor Longnose says:

I am grilling a London broil. Just thought you’d like to know.

  15. Professor Longnose says:

All right, no more letting pitchers off the hook.

  16. Phil C says:

Bases loaded, no outs. The MUST score at least 2 runs this inning! If not I’m buying a voodoo doll and a whole bunch of pins.

  17. smurfy says:

Hey – a Baltimore chop. Tasty.

  18. smurfy says:

Hey, Arod scored a long time ago. Maybe it was fortunate that he missed by six inches.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

I’m surprised Showalter stayed with Britton this long.

  20. Phil C says:

Well, I guess you can say that this inning is a walk in the park.

  21. Phil C says:

Swisher now 0 for 17 vs Arrieta.

  22. Professor Longnose says:

Damn. One solid hit away from blowing it open. This is a lead Garcia could blow.

  23. smurfy says:

Jake went all Mariano on Swish and Alex till that last one.

  24. Hawaii Dave says:

Jones and Swisher’s strikeouts with bases loaded will come back to haunt the Yankees in this game. Why Jones is playing is beyong me. There are 2 righties on the bench who are better hitters. Jones is playing on September 9th based on his not June…well if he deserves to play today because of what he did in June why not sign him to 2 more years at 2 mil per year based on his hot June. I mean if a hot month is such an indication of worth, just sign him up. It should be 7-0 right now.

  25. Professor Longnose says:

Take him out. I don’t care what his pitch count is.

  26. Professor Longnose says:

    Joba?? OK, leave Garcia in.

  27. Professor Longnose says:

    Un-bleeping-leeeeeeevable!

  28. Hawaii Dave says:

My beloved Yankees will find a way to lose this game. There is a cloud upon them. Even the umps are in on it.

  29. Phil C says:

Where is that frigging voodoo doll?

  30. Professor Longnose says:

This team can’t finish the sale. Not hitting, not pitching.

  31. Phil C says:

SURGEON GENERAL’S WARNING: Watching Yankee games can he hazardous to both your physical and mental health.

  32. Phil C says:

    Thank you Joba!!

  33. Phil C says:

Come on, forget walks, we want RUNS!!

  34. Phil C says:

This home plate/base ump is awful. TBS is showing pitch track on virtually all the pitches and he is so inconsistent it’s ridiculous.

  35. Phil C says:

This is a real Christian game. Virtually all runs are gifts from the opposing team. It just warms my heart…..NOT!!

  36. smurfy says:

text poll entry: my fantastic Yankees, except now you tell me not

  37. smurfy says:

Yep, Joba’s looking good. He may prove very useful in coming days.

  38. Phil C says:

The return of the Joba. At least for today. Looks like it’s The Bridge on the River Nova before D-Rob & Sori.

  39. smurfy says:

well, well, welcome back Curtis’ good swing.

  40. Phil C says:

Nice little pick-me-up from Curtis. Great try by Jones.

  41. smurfy says:

    Chopperwocky

  42. Professor Longnose says:

I wish Cano had caught that. I’d have liked to see him try the shortstop-in-the-hole thing, just to see how he can handle it.

    • smurfy says:

I betcha Robbie could do it. But less chances for that wonderful sling. The sling thing is a thing of beauty. He’d probably innovate something new at short.

      • Professor Longnose says:

The sling makes me nervous, but I have to admit I’ve never seen it fail.

        • smurfy says:

fastest transfers coming across second. That sling is wizard. Yeah, his accuracy is uncanny. He just has a feel for things that need it.

Wish he’d quit trying for so much power. It would come, along with lots more hits if he would stay versatile, go with more pitches.

  43. Phil C says:

What’s up with Binder Joe? Davis is 6 for 10 w/HR vs. Logan.

  44. Professor Longnose says:

Well, my heart went boom when I crossed that room and I held her hand in miiiiiiine…

  45. Professor Longnose says:

Swisher needs to buy a vowel.

  46. Professor Longnose says:

    Two-out RISP hit!! Yaaaah!

  47. Phil C says:

    Don’t edit out those bloopers.

  48. smurfy says:

Grandy just bought an “oo.” Ding, ding.

  49. smurfy says:

Nice four-part harmony, my home sweet HOME!

  50. Phil C says:

Cory Wade. Take your choice any disaster movie will do!

  51. Phil C says:

Texas was giving out BJ’s today. Upton had 3 HRs.

  52. smurfy says:

Who’s got pop and average, too? De-rek Je-tah.

  53. Professor Longnose says:

    Now that’s being the Yankees!

  54. Phil C says:

    Jeter takes flight!

  55. smurfy says:

Arod: “Thanks, but quit targetting my hand.”

  56. Professor Longnose says:

I like this game. Best game in a while.

  57. Phil C says:

Cap Ripkin & John Smoltz in the booth. So what is all that baseball experience teaching us about the game? What color highlighters Ernie Johnson uses to fill out his score card!

  58. Professor Longnose says:

Michael Kay says that the Baltimore Sun did not mention the bad call in its game report yesterday, and the Baltimore TV coverage didn’t show a replay of the final out.

  59. Phil C says:

I hope today’s game is just a warm up for playing the Red Sucks.

  60. Professor Longnose says:

    What got into Curtis??

  61. smurfy says:

Neat little sharp breaking ball under the lefty’s hands. Beautiful right-and-down on the changeup. Cory Wade on the water.

  62. Professor Longnose says:

Showalter gave up and put in the JV team.

  63. Professor Longnose says:

Right now Baltimore is tied for first. The Red Sox are in last, 16 games behind them. And both teams have the same run differential: -19.

  64. Phil C says:

First time that’s Lowe has entered a game and I’m not worried he’ll blow it.

  65. Phil C says:

Threw them birds right out of that 1st place nest.

  66. Phil C says:

    Chat y’all for Boston!

  67. smurfy says:

    see ya, guys.
