I really don’t even know where to begin with this recap other than saying, “Phew!”

This game had it all: good pitching, not so good pitching, good fielding, not so good fielding, dinky hits, long balls, lots of hits, lots of runs and thank goodness, the Yankees were able to come out on top.

was given the responsibility to stop the bleeding and stall the losing streak at two games. He did just that.

The game itself wasn’t pretty and it became extremely scary for Yankee fans in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

  • pinch hit for Jeff Bake
  • Dirks singled to left, Cabrera scored, Young to third
  • singled to third, Young scored, Dirks to second

By the time the inning was finally over it was 8-7. The Yankees were precariously clinging to a one run lead with two full innings left.

Luckily for the Yankees, their former teammate decided to help them out by allowing two runs in the top of the eighth to extend the Yankees lead to 10-7.

Robertson stayed in the game to pitch the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo shot to cute the Yankee lead to 10-8. After getting Cabrera to fly out, Robertson was replaced by who got Fielder to ground out to end any chance of any more scoring.

Thankfully the Yankees weren’t done scoring. After and both singled, Brayan Villareal balked  which scored Nix from third. walked and followed that up with a single of his own to score Jeter.

Mercifully, came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

The Yankees escaped with a win, CC earned his 12th win of the season and they now have a chance to split the series tomorrow afternoon.

  • CC’s line: 6.2IP, 8H, 5R, 3ER, 1BB, 7K and he didn’t give up a home run
  • belted his 30th home run of the season and finished 2-3 with four RBI on the night.
  • From YES research: This is the fourth time this season all nine starters got a hit.  First time this season they had 10 different players get a hit.

Really everything was fine except for Robertson. If he had done a mildly crappy job instead of a horrible one, it wouldn’t have been close. I hope it was just a BABIP freakout, and not a problem.

Anyone wonder if CC’s subpar performance had anything to do with his catcher?
