June 22nd Game Thread: Chickens don’t clap!
I can’t hear anybody talk about chickens without being reminded of , so thank you Frank Francisco.
Weather permitting, the Yankees will be taking on their cross-town rivals at Citi Field (National League baseball, so prepare for STRATEGY) tonight in the first game of a 3-game set. Frank Francisco’s silly comments may have raised the temperature for the series a little bit, but that’s pretty much par for the course in this big dog-little dog relationship. Andy Pettitte will take the hill for the Yankees, taking on a younger version of himself in Jon Niese for the Mets. This should be a great matchup, particularly with how well Andy has been pitching of late, but for many fans this is but an appetizer for the impending CC Sabathia-R.A. Dickey matchup. Nonetheless, there will (hopefully) be baseball tonight, so feel free to discuss it in this thread. Also, feel free to answer this question (particular if the game is rained out): What is your favorite kind of chicken?

Most poker sites open to US players also provide online casinos accepting USA players. A good example of this is BetOnline.com, where you can play 3D casino games, bet on sports or play poker from anywhere in the United States.

Chicken catcher Torre.
My favorite chicken? I prefer fried. Interesting comment from a guy who throws chairs into womens faces and breaks their nose.
Niese is good. Hes got a nice arsenal of pitches and has the same delivery for all of them. Approach very similar to Andy
I hate the Mets.
I nothing the Mets. Theyre like the little brother whose older brother was a varsity athlete and honor roll student.
I didn’t realize Cano had such big platoon splits this season, that seems unusual for him.
I know kind of disappointing. He’ll figure it out though hes done it his entire career.
Wowww Andy just not having much in this inning. Good thing he gets to face a pitcher now lol he might not make it out of the inning any other way.
Hahaha did I just say that??
yes, sadly. Get Freddie ready.
Ehhh maybe Andy will buckle down. Not ready to conceed defeat just yet, I mean put Garcia in the game.
yeah, that’s the way it’s done. You hope and wait, meanwhile a very credible pitcher erodes from non-use.
Freddy Garcia is credible?
yeah, tho he, like anybody, can get off. Best way to get him back on, if you are interested, is to challenge him.
Same for Andy, of course. Ehh, it just doesn’t feel positive…
I always long to pull a starter early, with the wish there were means to bring him back in a couple of days, jigger the rotation. Probably would screw with somebody’s timing, but if someone were a bit weary…
I’m glad Andy, who absolutely besnoggered the Nats, squeaked by, but I don’t have much confidence in him tonite. It’s the 3rd inning and 5 runs is a lot, but eight runs would hurt more. Also, it sets a bad precedent.
He seems to have settled down. I would pinch hit for him if Garcia is ready to go. If they arent I would let Andy go out there and soak up another two innings. They havent had any strong contact off him since that inning.
Yeah, he’s at 66+ pitches now, and he did well last inning against 8, 9, and Torres (who seems to find his slider difficult). So, may as well ride him as burn Eppley, Wade, Dave , et al.
Freddie could probably give them two innings now, from nonuse.
Man, where’s the mojo? Curtis absolootely smoked that liner, and Duda took all the calm livelong day to swoop in to snag it.
hunh, 9 in a row for Andy. Maybe I misjudged the boy.
Boy? Hes a man!!! Hes 40!!! Come at him!! Best college football rant ever lol. Good job ARod…took a bit out of the apple with that one
Disaster first inning but he did what he had to after that. A testament to his mental fortitude, as I feel many other pitchers would unravel after starting a game this way.
yeah, the risk was the unravelling. He will be wounded, maybe motivated, so Andy righted his ship, and that’s positive for next time. Just… we’re in a string of shit, and would be good to break it.
Gave his team a chance to come back. But where’s the mojo? Nobody’s hitting enough, though Alex did spike the old apple.
Down 4 in the 7th, okay. Just if the offense had had some spark, some uplifting feeling, like they’d get from Freddy wowing unexpectedly, oh, well.
Hahaha Freddy wowing would indeed be very unexpected. This team doesn’t have the chip away at the other teams lead ability. Yankees are a boom or bust offense. Cano looks lost
yeah about Robbie. May their bullpen be bounteous.
couple nice homers off Niese, but both solos. Need prior baserunners to multiply.
In a game like this why even put Cory Wade in the game? This is the perfect time to use Garcia.
yeah, if he was warmed, say and primed with two good pitches. He needs some reps to come back.
I don’t know why he is on the roster. He doesn’t get into gsmes ever. They should just DFA him to allow him to catch on somewhere else and call someone else up. Its not fair to Garcia, and the bullpen would be made better by calling up a real bullpen guy. Ryota Igarashi comes to mind as a guy who can give you 2 or 3 innings and be effective.
maybe you’re right about fairness. Probably holding him as insurance against injury. The starters have all been so good for a month, so he hasn’t benn out there, except for that brave stint against the Braves around inning 12. But it seems that a funk is on us now, and he hasn’t been prepared.
If thats the case they should still send him on his way. I would rather see Igarashi on the roster than Garcia. I would actually rather see DJ Mitchell in that role bc I think he profiles more as a long man than a rotation guy.
but that risk of injury is considerable. Phelps would be a legimate prospect, but wouldn’t want the season to ride on him. Freddy holds significant pitching power even yet.
The Yankees have DJ Mitchell, Adam Warren, and Dellin Betances all for bullpen consideration in my opinion. Phelps and maybe Warren is the backup if any starter gets hurt.
Warren, Mitchell, and Betances have all taken major steps back this year though but I am hoping one of them can help the team in some sort of way.
Last year was my first year getting into prospects so maybe I am being too optimistic about the Yankees farm system
would be good to give each exposure. Just the big league assignment sparks some guys. But Bettances for one, looked terribly shaky, and is not a baby for the bathwater, by my thinking. Needs to really do it well in AAA, so he would build confidence (and command) before he hits the big time again.
great stretch and snag by Tex. Torres was lost against Andy, and had a feeling it was bottled up.
Tex really amazes me with his glovework. I don’t understand when people think that first base defense isn’t as important as other positions. The ball goes to Tex on a large chunk of the plays. Hes only of the few positions where his defensive prowess makes 3 other guys better. That said…Tex needs to hit better
you said a mouthful about defense, and 1st base defense, and about Tex’s real contributions. 1/2 the game goes unnaccounted for. Ask Russell.
David Wright underestimated Andruw’s mobility.
Robbie goes BOOM!
Good on Robbie. He was having a visibly hard time till he found that one.
what was that? YES showed Swish’s miss on the home run catch, instead of His popup finding a glove.
I dunno im watching on 9
oh, yeah, My9 with YES production.
great catch of the foul pop by Russell. Wanted to pop back out of that clumsy glove, weird angle, yet presence of mind.
Wonder how much it will take to resign Martin? He is having a down year offensively and defense is hard to quantify.
No clue. 3 for $20 wasn’t enough. Top defensive skills where it’s a force multiplier. Yet still weenie hate if his batting no good.
Dellin Betances reminds me a lot of Ubaldo Jimenez. Great stuff but he is so tall that if his mechanics are off his pitching is wild. Its incredibly frustrating for the Yankees to have only developed 1 ace in franchise history. Betances seems to have gone the way of Brackman and Banuelos’s command which was never ever an issue seems to suddenly become one. And he got hurt. Do the pitching coaches in AAA and AA know what the hell they are doing?
Betances and Brackman are hard cases. Banuelos had too complex a pre-delivery this spring. Don’t know if they pressed him to convert to a simpler, direct approach.
Only one Ace? The Loosiana Lightning, presuming. No Whitey Ford? Nobody in the 20′s, 30′s?
I don’t know about the 20s and 30s but Whitey Ford? Ehhh I am not familiar with his stats but from what I have heard he was more like a better Andy Pettite. Guidry was a true ace. When he took the mound he shut you down consistently. To me thats an ace, a term that gets thrown around way too much these days.
Oh, baby, baserunners…
Well if I wanted to shut the Yankees down I would certainly make sure they had men in scoring position
you’d be in a quandary then, unless you were counting on back-to back tying.
Fritz! Frankie’s gonna figure he can skin some chickens.
Funny he called the Yankees out and then said they were complainers. Who is appealing hits after a game to try and sneak in another “no hitter?” Oh and who broke a womans nose with a chair? Franky needs to shut his mouth
after Humber’s perfectly awful last pitch in a “perfect” game, what’s next?
Franky’s chair throwing, that was dangerously over the top. But he still has a voice, and his criticism was a clever ax off a valid point.
