Game thread: Saturday, April 14, Angels vs. Yankees
may have only pitched 4.2 innings in his first start of the season but it wasn’t because he lacked stuff. Compared to last season Hughes looked great. His only weaknesses were his inability to put away hitters quickly with two strikes (what else is new?) and Joe Girardi’s quick hook. His failure to give the Yankees length shouldn’t diminish what was a solid come back start for the big right hander.
The Angels will counter with , their other shiny off season acquisition. Yankee fans know Wilson all too well from his time with the Rangers. He was as-advertised in his last start. The Yankees will have their work cut out for them.
Here are the lineups:
Angels
1. – SS
2. – 2B
3. – 1B
4. – DH
5. – RF
6. – 3B
7. – LF
8. – C
9. – CF
Yankees
1. – SS
2. – RF
3. – 2B
4. – DH
5. – 1B
6. – CF
7. – LF
8. – C
9. Eduardo Nunez – 3B
Use this as your game thread. Enjoy!

Most poker sites open to US players also provide online casinos accepting USA players. A good example of this is BetOnline.com, where you can play 3D casino games, bet on sports or play poker from anywhere in the United States.

King Albert put a royal blow on a high fastball. The two curves were fine strikes. Pretty nice fb, real nice curves, but still predictable.
Phil has his weapons back, but he needs to get used to them, maybe.
Phil’s looking pretty fine, but shaky, a bit. Reckon that’s why they got David Phelps up: Phil’s raw performance has been dynamite, not to be undone. Management was concerned for their blooming asset.
Wilson kept the Yankees down in the third. Only Swish connected, a line-out to third. Down 3 – 0, Phil needs to re-establish momentum.
Amazing command of the curve, Phil is yanking his slider, or more likely, his cutter. He threw a good one, first inning, low , too outside a hair. Got Bourgos with a “front door slider”, McCarver called it, nice cutter.
Oh man, Tex was hit in the chest or shoulder by a bouncer, and couldn’t find it in front of him. Ouch, that hurts.
They want to bring in Phelps, but Phil is strong!
Ow, Kedrick swung equally strong, and met it perfectly, the same cutter aforementioned. One of the few times I’ve heard such a solid hit at Yankee Stadium. YES should steal their parabola.
David Phelps came in to face none less than Albert, and handled him, defused by a 385′ Albert drive dead away. Best he could do against that.
Got Morales on a grounder to second. Phelps has shown no quivver.
Hey, smurfy, I missed the game so far. From what you say, Hughes was good, but from the results, he sucked eggs. What’s the deal?
Down 6 – 0, but it’s only the 4th. Tex has a single. Rally time, Curtis!
Good walk! Andruw is swinging a big stick today.
A huge… swinging bunt.
Yeah, but what’s your final take on Hughes?
Like I said just above, he’s got his stuff going now, it will take some experimentation to find his combo’s.
Another solid shot, 7 – 0. Phelps’ plain variety got figured once, a shock resulting in a walk, but he recovered to k Borgeos.
A baserunner!
Two baserunners!
Three baserunners! And a run!
Much as I wanted to see a homer, Robbie got one in with a single thru the left. I like smart hitting. 7 – 1, one out in the 5th.
Shit, CJ jammed Alex, and probably Tex, since his liner was soften by his broken bat.
Phelps got Albert again, right at the wall.
Howdy, Professor, you’ve been hiding in the recent past. Didn’t know you were there.
Missed the beginning of the game–just as well.
It was interesting. jete and Swish started with singles. Thoght we had CJ, sound familiar?
I don’t mind losing games every so often, but this one is just dreary.
au contraire, mon ami. Lots of interest, just disappointing. Hittig and pitching well, just not quite good enough. I guess if you are results-oriented…
Yeah, you’re not wrong, but losing 7-1 you have to ignore a lot of results.
true, true. It’s been that way: good, good, good, ouch.
Phelps sure looks good. Lots o’ strikes, nicely varied, right and left corners.
How long is Ellsbury out, Prof?
It’s only April. The Yanks never start kicking butt until mid-June.
Booo! Swish checked up!
Looked that way to me.
He’s been hitting them, looking dangerous when he hasn’t, from the righty side. He looked well balanced lefty there, too.
That’s three, maybe four liners caught by the Angels’ infield.
Bad luck and bad hitting is a counterproductive combination.
I’m gonna go drown my sorrows in a grilled cheese sandwich. See you tomorrow.
