Game Four: Ivan the Terrible/Great?
Three games, three losses. With , , and winless, the baton is passed to . Nova had the worst spring training of any starter in the Yankee system, and now the Yankees are relying on him to stop this 3 game lossing streak. Against the surging Orioles, he might have a difficult night. In Nova’s career 25.1 innings against Baltimore, he has posted a 3.55 ERA, and at Camden a 4.38 ERA.
Facing the lefty handed pitcher , the Yankee will roll out the new lefty lineup with DHing and Eduardo Nunez at 3B. After finishing 5th for Rookie of the Year award in 2010, Matusz struggled heavily last year. In his career versus the Yankees he has a 4.70 ERA, and nearly a 1.500 WHIP. The Yankees should have no problem hitting the lefty, so a strong start from Nova should give the Yankees a very good chance to win. Here is today’s lineup.
Yankees | Orioles |
SS | LF |
RF | SS |
2B | RF |
DH | CF |
1B | C |
CF | 3B |
LF | DH |
C | Chris Davis 1B |
Eduardo Nunez 3B | 2B |
The game starts at 7:05 pm EST on YES. GO YANKEES!

Most poker sites open to US players also provide online casinos accepting USA players. A good example of this is BetOnline.com, where you can play 3D casino games, bet on sports or play poker from anywhere in the United States.

The Yankees take the lead!
Tex hit it nicely to right center. Probably helps to practice that from the right side, too.
The Yanks got a lead!
Feels like the first time in 6 months.
Ivan Nova hit 95 and 96 in the first inning according to the stadium gun and gameday. That’s amazing.
I was out in the kitchen. Wanna see that!
He also became the first Yankee starter to work a clean 1st inning this year. Booyah!
Nice slider, nice slider. Ataboy.
Man, that 2 seamer sliding in from the inside corner looked pretty good to Weiters. Hunh.
put that on in the mental library, Ivan. Applies to most lefties, till you can throw it at their stomach, and have it go to the corner. Better yet, throw it toward the outer half, like you meant to, but be sure of it!
Nova looks like a different pitcher out there. A sick curveball and slider, throwing his fastball 94/95. His changeup isn’t so great.
oh, was that it.
Hell of a ten foot dive Curtis made. Just out of his reach, off the tips. Too bad he had him positioned toward right, or he woulda had it.
You know the expression, “It looks like a line drive in the box score”? Well, it still looks like a bloop on Sports Center.
but the important line in the box score is satisfied.
Hey, nothing against bloops. Some of my favorite hits have been bloops.
you know it! Jete had some prize-winners to right, in the past. Martin did “muscle” that inside pitch out there.
Of course, Luis Gonzalez can stuff his bloop where the sun don’t shine.
Ooooh, Jete! That’s what we’ll see on Sports Center.
or what I would see if I watched that jumbled mess of sports.
Small sample sizes be damned, Jeter has looked good at the plate so far, and it extends back to the last week or so of ST.
He looks very much like he did in the 2nd half of last season. Whatever he worked out during his summer DL stint really seems to be sticking for him, which is an encouraging sign.
No doubt about it. Back to the toe tap forever! Drive at the ball. That was almost a homer to the right field foul pole.
Boy, did Robbie hit that hard. The sidespin brought it into Hardy, or he’d never get that rocket.
That will look line a bloop in the box score.
yeah, had to be watching that one. Great replay fom behind home.
See there? Nuney can snag ‘em and throw ‘em.
That last one was really something.
Nunez just made two great plays. End of the world!
Nice, Senor Nuney!
Yu Darvish is getting hit. I wonder if there are already T shirts that say “F**k Yu.”
Surprised this game isn’t on MLB Network. You’d think it’d bring a huge draw, Darvish v Ichiro and all.
You know ESPN was bumming when Texas announced their rotation to open the season and they realized they weren’t getting Yu on national TV last night but were still stuck with the White Sox.
Funny thing was they had Yu Darvish plastered on the front of their MLB page all day yesterday saying something like “Major League Debut”. Someone missed something.
Andy Pettitte just gave up 6 runs in one inning… against a single A team.
that’s hard to believe.
I heard he only gave up one run in 3 innings.
The 6 runs is legit. Bottom of the 4th. String of singles, wild pitch, HBP, and a HR involved. The first 6 batters in the inning reached base.
Only one outing, but that’s a bit of a bummer.
The reports I read are that Pettitte didn’t pitch the 4th. They took him out after three.
Nope, you’re right. He went 4. Yup, a bummer.
I take my comment back. Bryan Hoch just tweeted that he went 3 IP and Tampa’s site has it wrong.
The internet was wrong??!!?
Nova’s strikeout fb there was 93. That’s a more normal limit for him. Thinking he was over-throwing, maybe, he was flying high, missing up.
Yea he seems to have dialed it down that inning and was looking for contact.
ANRUUUUWWWW. The DH spot is gonna hit 30 homeruns this season. Thats more than I think Montero will hit.
I’ll take that any year.
Jonesy was waiting on that pitch like a thug in the alley.
All right, Nunez! Having a game out there.
I love a poorade, with all the bunting!
The kid bunts, the old man bunts…
Jeter handing out free outs.
Two base bunt, baby!
Just one, I’d agree. But set one on third, with one out, a 4 run lead, and another in scoring position for a single. That works, when you got a good hitting team.
Azure Avians 2, Crimson Hose 0 after 4.
whatizthis? a puzzle? Took me 20 goderne seconds to figger that out, you joker!
I have an old baseball trivia book that keeps referring to the Crimson Hose and the Pale Hose. I don’t know if they were ever common nicknames.
The Azure Avians I came up with myself.
well, warn us if you not going to Rio.
The Chicago Tribune did refer to them as Pale Hose, oncet in awhile.
Oh, well. What’s the difference, a grand slam or a double play?
Nothing with Nova on the mound!
Our old friend Noesi is pitching against Darvish. He gave up two runs in the first inning himself. Now 5-2 Mariners.
Montero didn’t start the game.
You’d think if Montero caught anyone, it would be Noesi.
You’re right. I wonder if he’s hurt, or resting, or the Mariners have already given up using him as a catcher.
UPDATE: I checked the news. Montero has an upset stomach.
Sounds like he’s scared of Yu.
I am the mighty Jesus. I am not scared of Yu.
Bad fish, damned fishmarket.
Good ol’ Noesi. Did you see him comment in on RAB? He thanked folks for the well-wishes. Hope he does good.
Nope, do you have a link?
No, sorry. To the best of memory, it was the off-season before he showed up in the Bronx full-time. Early 2011?
That’s very cool. With all the work Mike puts into the minors, that a great place to address his fans.
yeah, the peeps were taken aback, like, what did we say? Hope it was good.
Curtis teed off on that ball.
Tampa’s website is wrong, Pettitte only went 3 innings. Disaster averted.
Weiters almost cutGardy off at the pass, with tha throw upthe line. Andino almost swiped his butt.
E9
No – he hit the wall, woulda been to second normally. Did you see Swish’s acrobatic throw? Right to second. Now, ask me was the play flawless? well, no.
They showed a replay where he was rounding first just as the ball hit off Swisher’s glove. No way he went to second if Swisher came up with it cleanly.
okay, sorry. I’ve been running around, feeding the cat and such.
Let ‘em starve!
but I made a good pickup and a heluva throw.
We get burned by our shift, now.
5 runs off Noesi thanks to a 3 run Nelson Cruz homerun.
can’t fool around with the spanish lumberjack.
wicked, wicked slider.
were they shifting Jeter? Or did Nuney running take the 2cd baseman off?
Cano looks more patient so far.
hope he does. Since he can hit to left, besides the OB, holding off bad pitches would improve his get-a-hit toolkit.
Pizzazz right near the corner gets it, with 2 strikes.
oh, the ump feels guilty. Ball 2 on Jones was clearly a strike.
This ump squeezes the strike zone.
David Robertson was hitting his spots pretty well. I guess you get extra points for that.
Of course Robertson needs runners on to get through the inning.
He realized he got the order of events wrong by K’ing the first 2 batters and had to make up for it.
“Houdini chains himself up first!”
Maybe David better be fireman, instead of spoiling a clean slate in the 9th.
I don’t care how many Three Stooges commercials they show, I’M NOT GOING TO SEE IT!!!
but, aren’t you a typical Yankee fan? whoop-whoop-whup-whup!
Nuney! every play’s an adventure. Not challenging enough to stay where you were?
As much crap as Jeter gets at SS, Nunez always reminds me how easy Jeter makes it look.
Good win finally.
The-uh-uh Yankees win! Finally!!!
Ivan – Ivan – Ivan!
Ivan the Stopper!
Woo-hoo! Ivan’s the man.
Go Yankees!
Ivan Nova looked like an ace tonight, random balls finding weird holes aside.
Nova done good. Didn’t let a crack in the wall become a hole.
Curry said he was using 2 pitches fb and curve. I was calling them sliders, broke down on the left corner.
Tex beating the shift in the first by lining it right of the pitcher, that got it going. More of THAT.
