Tonight has the makings of a potential pitcher’s duel, at least insofar as a pitcher’s duel can occur in the Ballpark in Arlington.

The Yankees offense is lacking a bit of punch, as Russell Martin has a much-deserved day off, Brett Gardner is still on the disabled list, and Raul Ibanez will sit against a rather talented southpaw – meaning Eduardo Nunez and Chris Stewart will be batting eighth and ninth. Then again, Nunez is sporting a 1.000 OPS thus far (though he has scuffled against LHP, batting an empty .400 thus far … small sample sizes!). The Yankees will face Derek Holland (check out Michael Eder’s scouting report), who appears to be consolidating those tantalizing flashes of potential from the past three-plus seasons into a breakout season … and giving a bit of hope to those who are still enamored with Hughes’ potential.

CC Sabathia, fresh off his best start of this fledgling season, will face a Rangers lineup sans Adrian Beltre … and an uninspiring trifecta in Torrealba, Snyder, and Gentry at the bottom of the order. One through six remains relatively horrifying, though.

That being said, I would likely take the over on even the most pragmatic line.

    Not if he’s hitting .455!

  2. Phil C says:

At least his fielding percentage won’t decline. But this situation is the result of Hughes and Garcia being unable to provide enough innings.

    Let’s see some first-inning damage!

  4. Professor Longnose says:

Granderson comes through! I’d have felt lousy if they didn’t score there.

Texas is playing the cavalry’s coming bugle call. That’s really a call to the bullpen.

  18. smurfy says:

Wow, CC pitched a 5 pitch inning, AND sawed Hamilton off. Nice 8. Is that all?

  19. Professor Longnose says:

Crimson Hose have blown a 3-0 lead. The Geminates are up 4-3.

  20. Phil C says:

Hopefully there will only be one Rangers’ win tonight. I just hope I can find a channel that carries game seven here.

  21. Professor Longnose says:

    Mariano for the save.

  22. Professor Longnose says:

Couple drives off Mariano, but they’re outs just the same.

  23. smurfy says:

And he finishes with a miscued squib, appropriately.

  24. smurfy says:

Lessee… CC gets the pitching , and all-around award, if I were pressed, but Jete gets the player award, minus the routine error. Strong balls: Curtis. Slugger, that Arod with the Abomb.
