   Marc Hulett really seems to like the Yankee system. When he cites high-end pitching depth as a weakness, I think he refers to the lack of elite prospects beyond Man-Ban, Dellin and Campos.
   He contrasts this with the great depth in position prospects emerging from the GCL and NY Penn leagues. He also refers to the high number of “sleeper” prospects Yanks have — and how these might push system ranking up in future. All in all, a very encouraging report from Marc. Yanks, as we all know, will need every prospect they can claim, as Selig’s new CBA rules choke off NYY access to young talent.

   Manny Banuelos’ command seemed to greatly improve when pitching from the stretch. A small confirmation that he needs to simplify his windup, particularly the start, when he turns his left foot and hip.

   Outstanding curve and a fine fastball! Good he’s working on the changeup, too.

     I liked the curve a lot, looks like a great weapon against lefties. The change is typically his best secondary offering, but I didn’t see Manny go to it that much yesterday. He had good velocity yesterday though, consistently sitting around 93 and hitting 95.

       I didn’t watch this outing for Banuelos but in the games I’ve watched him pitch in I’ve liked the curve overall. The problem with it is that at times it starts to get a little loopy, it then becomes much more hittable and it’s less of a strikeout pitch. Which may be a reason behind throwing the curve more this spring, since he knows he needs that pitch to be more consistent. He certainly has the stuff to be a good starter, if he improves the curve consistency and his fastball command he has a good chance of realizing his potential in the rotation.
