Here is the first in our new series of daily links from around the blogosphere.

  • Brien Jackson, at It’s About The Money, questions why the Yankees so eagerly signed back in the fall. If the Yankees fail to sign Garcia, they find themselves with the $4 million they are now looking for in their budget.
  • Speaking of regrettable pitching moves, Joe Pawlikowski at River Ave Blues wrote about the Yankees tendenecy to trade young pitchers in the 80’s and early 90’s. With the names mentioned, it’s no wonder the Yankees are reluctant to trade young pitchers today.
  • Over at FanGraphs, Steve Slowinski discussed the unlikelihood of trading AJ Burnett with on the free agent market. He also brings up a point I’ve been wondering since signing a DH became a budget issue; the Yankees can’t actually afford a couple extra million dollars on their budget?
  • If you haven’t read about it already, YES network anchor Bob Lorenz, was arrested this morning on a DUI charge. The officer found Lorenz sleeping in his car with the engine idling. Unfortunately, this might mean more of John Flaherty in 2012.
  • Buster Olney reported , that the Yankees are interested in dealing AJ Burnett to the Pirates for . Though the Yankees are of AJ’s $35 million, the Pirates are not interested.
  • Finally, for anyone interested in fantasy baseball, ESPN’s version opened Tuesday, and . Make sure to get a few mock drafts in before the season starts, you’ll be surprised how quickly outfielders are moving.

I was thinking of starting a 10 man ESPN fantasy league this year for friends and some guys from TYA. I won’t make it until spring training actually starts, but if anyone is interested hit me up at . People new to fantasy are welcome, just make sure you actually want to participate. Nothing worse than a fantasy league with half the people inactive.

I hope YES finds that Bob Lorenz was doing the wise thing, sleeping it off a bit, after he had gotten his excess frivolity on. May they not see it as sin, by the LAW, since the car was running, perhaps, merely to provide some heat. The recent Hot Stove series was outstanding, and I’ll wager his talents included many ideas. He is a witty and affable fellow, and we need him.

    • Michael Eder says:

Unfortunately the car was in drive when they found him. Its really too bad, always thought he was a great asset to the YES network, especially compared to the other anchors. He’s likely headed for the glue factory with how strict the Yankees tend to be with these things.

yeah, I just read elsewhere, “slumped over the wheel at a stop sign.” Beeg peccadillo.

Ah, he could do shows from the hoosgau, I’m sure Jack and Tyler, Bob, Mark, Marc, Jon, and Ken won’t mind joining in.

    • Michael P. says:

I agree that he is an entertaining broadcaster, but from the sound of the report, he was not just simply sleeping it off in his car. More like he somehow drove and fell asleep. Not advocating for any action to be taken until all the smoke has cleared, but if this man was blackout drunk and passed out while driving his car, he should be fired.

One of my favorite baseball novels is about an announcer in his last year before retirement doing games for a crummy baseball team that no one listens to. The radio station decides to liven things up my teaming him up with an aspiring starlet who knows nothing about baseball. It’s called Toot-Toot-Tootsie, Good-bye! by Ron Powers.
